Student Reports Her School for Violating her Human Rights Because of Pregnancy

Most of the population of Uganda does not know that there are various rules and laws, both National and International, that protects them from unfairness. Some however, have explored all possible means, to ensure that they are given what they are entitled to. A student, Oliver  Nalubowa has challenged her school on the basis of violation of her Human Rights. She reported the school, St. Andrew Secondary School, based in Mukono, to the Centre for Health, Human Rights and Development. (CEHUR)

From our sources, we learn that the school denied her access to sit for her S4 UNEB examinations. The school suspended the candidate because she is pregnant, on grounds of various school rules and regulations. Oliver, then had to take a stand.

“This letter is to demand that you admit her back to class to sit her UNEB Examinations with immediate effect or face legal action as your actions are illegal and an abuse of Ms. Nalubowwa’s fundamental Human Rights” Read the letter to the Headteacher.
