No Hoodies! Says President Museveni

One of the things that has come as a shock to the country is the death of Arua Municipality Member of Parliament, Ibrahim Abiriga. He was shot next to his home, bu unknown gun men, who were apparently on a boda-boda. Abiriga’s bodyguard and brother, Saidi Kongo Bugawas also caught up in this incident, and lost his life. During the burial, in Lukudu Village, the president made known to the crowd that hoodies will be banned, since it is the major technique being used by assailants to commit crimes nowadays.

The president addressing mourners in Arua

“Those who killed Abiriga are using a simple technique of putting on a jacket with a hood…So we had a security meeting the other day, and I asked the security people; why do you allow these people to move with hoods?’ So we’re going to ban covering of your head when you’re driving…For the helmets, we’re going to require all of them to acquire new helmets with numbers at the back and those numbers must be shining at night. So no more hoods…” Museveni mentioned.

The president also said that various laws will be made against people who make noise on radio and social media. I guess we have to throw away all our hooded sweaters.

Girl “Predicts” Abiriga’s death. Fools Ugandans

The beauty with smart technology is that you can fool hundreds of people. With photo shop, people have managed to visit the furthest and fanciest places on earth. A few days ago, a photo took over social media, of a face book post made in May, suggesting the time when Abiriga will pass on. The post received massive comments and shares, making it circulate all round the country. The Honorable Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga also got a hold of it, and may have said something. Norbert Mao posted on his twitter;

The misleading face book post

“During the parliamentary session to pay tribute to the late Hon. Ibrahim Abiriga today, the Speaker also fell for this misleading post resulting from an edit. The post is being peddled as prophesy. Parliament Uganda, please protect the Speaker from fake News.”

This teaches us to be careful before we make conclusion. Jane Kuli, should be careful too, because you could be arrested, or worse still killed, by people who think you may have had something to do with it.

Riots in Arua Over The Death of Abiriga

Many people have called the death of Abiriga an insignificant one.  The president even mentioned that it was a “senseless one” The people of Arua however disagree, and have shown the world the importance of their Member of Parliament. Yesterday, the West Nile capital was filled with riots like no other.

It all started when the people high jacked the coffin of Ibrahim Abiriga, from a van and demanded to carry it on their shoulders. Those that were waiting at the his home, destroyed the chairs and tents that were set up for the occasion. All this escalated into riots in town, where youths began to destroy everything yellow in their paths. They demonstrated that they did not want anything to do with the government. The youth have banned the president of Uganda from stepping in their municipality.

Chairs and tents at the venue were destroyed

8 army mambas and 10 trucks of UPDF soldiers were deployed at the sight, and the RDC of Arua ordered them to use live bullets on the mourning youth. The police however refused. One of their motorcycles was also burnt yesterday, and BBS TV journalists attacked. The youth did not want to see any journalists, Policeman or government official. They demand for an answer.
