MPs to Sue Bobi Wine For Tuliyambale Engule Video

This new song, Tuliyambale Engule by Bibi Wine, has brought a lot of confusion in the country. First, the pastors wanted to sue the man for apparently using a church themed song for political reasons. Now, the Members of parliament want to sue Bibi Wine for putting them in the video without their convent?

Everybody enjoys Bibi Wine’s songs

Following a clip from NBS Uncut, Kato Lubwama irons out that the video has as a matter of fact given more publicity to these members of parliament, since it has made multiple rounds on social media.

Robert Kyagulanyi, recorded a video, as the MPs danced to his favorite hit, Kyarenga, during their end of year 2018 party. This particular clip was inserted into the official video of Kyarenga. What do you think? Are the MPs just seeking opportunity? Or did Bobi Wine do Wrong?

MP Twinamatsiko gives public Apology to women in parliamentary seating

Women members of parliament have forced an apology out of their counterpart MP Twinamatsiko, who recently encouraged men to beat up their wives.

While other people may use their 10 minutes of fame to do something nice or even make inspirational statements, the less known legislator decided to slander his name, by inciting violence against women. History shall remember him for such.

Agony for the MP started when he attempted to respond to President Yoweri Museveni’s statement during womens’ day celebrations in Mityana, that men should not beat their wives.

Given a chance by local TV network NTV, to comment on the president’s speech, the Bugangaizi MP said women should be disciplined, tackled and beaten up by their husband. This sure did not go down well with members of the public and fellow members of the house.

During plenary today, Twinamasiko made an apology on the floor of parliament following a directive by the Deputy Speaker Jacob Oulanyah in which he was asked for a personal statement justifying his proclamation.

Women parliamentarians under their umbrella group the Women’s Uganda Parliamentary Association (UWOPA) supplemented the Deputy Speaker’s directive demanding that the MP withdraws his statements and apologizes to the nation.

Twinamatsiko in his statement before the house today, said that while he never meant to condone violence against women, it is not his intention to further strain the matter by making unnecessary justifications. He added that he was totally against Gender-Based Violence especially against women and that any form of violence against women should be strongly resisted.

“I celebrate women who are the pillars of our society and the custodians of our national cohesion and togetherness.  I seek your understanding and I earnestly pray that you and all members of the public accept my sincere apology,” reads MP Twinamasiko’s statement to parliament.

He withdrew his earlier statements in support of women battering describing them as unfortunate.

Moyo Residents Strike Over Arrest of MP Hassan Fungaroo

Various Members of Parliament returned to their districts to consult the population about the lifting of the presidential age limit. In some places, it is peaceful, whereas in others, there are a few scuffles. Two days back, the people of Moyo district decided to take the law into their own hands. They rioted and held a strike over the order for the arrest of Obongi County Member of Parliament, Hassan Kaps Fungaroo, who was consulting them over the said bill.

Police at the scene

It is alleged that the police however dismissed these claims. The Police Spokesperson, AIGP Asan Kasingye explained that the citizens were just not happy about the delayed road construction by the Uganda National Roads Authority. (UNRA)

CITIZEN’S ARREST

A group of angry residents from Moyo district, surrounded their Deputy Police Officer, and arrested him, as portrayed by  a photograph that circulated around social media. In other pictures also, tires were being burnt in the middle of the town road road. According to edge.ug, it was termed as a citizens arrest. They further defined it as an arrest made by a person who is not acting as a sworn law-enforcement official.

AGE-LIMIT CONSULTATION

The government of Uganda is on a move to amend the constitution, remove the presidential age from existence. In pursuit of this, the 449 Members of parliament were a few months back, each given a sum of 29 million Uganda Shillings to seek the views of their various supporters on the presidential age limit issue that had been postponed.  As the deadlines draw nearer, there have been positive responses from some places, whereas others have completely opposed the move.
