1 Game, 1 Chance, 1 Champion: Zuku Brings Basketball to the People
All 4 ZUBL conferences have completed their regular season games with the Technical University of Mombasa- TUM emerging on top of the Coast conference and Dedan Kimathi emerging as the winners in the Central conference.
The TUM basketball sports department walked away with Kshs 20,000.00 for being the Coast Conference winners and Taita Taveta University placed 2nd in the conference and claimed Kshs 10,000.00 for their university’s basketball program in the men’s category. TUM and Pwani emerged first and second place respectively in the women’s categories as well so the two teams combined to win Kshs 60,000 for their schools’ basketball program.
Dedan Kimathi University men and women emerged winners in the Central province ahead of SEKU in both categories. Dedan Kimathi men and ladies also walk away with the first place prize of Kshs 20,000.00 while SEKU takes the second place prize of Kshs 10,000.00
Nairobi Conference finals
The Nairobi Conference has produced a number of surprises but the 3 teams likely to be heading to the National playoffs are USIU, TUK and UON in the men’s category and USIU, UoN and Daystar in the women’s category. The stage has been set and on October 4th USIU women will face off against UON to determine the 2013 Nairobi conference champions. Then at 18:30 the USIU men will face off against TUK and the game will be aired LIVE in HD on Zuku Sports Channel 300. The Nairobi conference winners will also walk away with Kshs 20,000 and the first runners up is guaranteed to receive Kshs 10,000 for their sports departments but the two teams will be playing for pride and a favorable position in the National Finals where they will be competing for an additional Kshs 150,000 for their university sports programs as well as a number of prizes for the winning players.
Western Conference playoffs
The Western conference playoffs are going to be held on the 27th and 28th of October at the Moi West and Moi Main grounds in Eldoret. Maseno main look to come out on top of the conference in the ladies category while MKU-Nakuru are favorites to win the men’s category. The finals of the Western Conference playoffs will be held on the 28th at the Moi Main gymnasium and the top three teams in both the men’s and women’s categories out of this conference get the chance to represent the Western conference at the finals in Nairobi. History is being made on the 28th in Eldoret as The Western conference finals will be the first live university basketball game that will be aired live in HD on Zuku Sport Channel 300.
These teams will represent their various conferences at the Zuku University Basketball League-ZUBL national finals at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani on the 11th and 12th of October.
The national champions will get Kshs 150,000. The first runners up getting Kshs 75,000 while the team that will finish third will get Kshs 40,000
