Eric Wainaina Finally Opens up about His ‘Side’ Relationship with Valerie Kimani that Almost Ended His Marriage

He’s been in the industry for close to 20 years now, yes 20 years. There’s nothing he hasn’t seen in the music industry; a music legend, is what he is; that’s why Churchill played host to him last week on his show. This time, the feted comedian decided to ask Eric Wainaina all the hard questions.

Somewhere in the interview, Churchill awakened past skeletons when he asked about the relationship Eric had with Valerie Kimani that threatened to bring his marriage to its knees.

Defending himself, Eric said, “Well, the first thing I had to do was to admit that I had made a terrible mistake.”

He further reveals that his wife, Sheba Hirst, stood by him through and through dispelling the rumours that she had left him after his relationship with Valerie leaked to the public. He however, admits that his wife moved out.

“She moved, lemme be honest. She moved and said, ‘Look Eric if you need time sometime to clear your mind go ahead and do that’”.

He further reveals that she made it clear that she could live without him something he admits he (like other men) fear the most.

Eric divulges that all this was a reconciliation process and at one time moved in with her at her parents’ place.

“At one we even moved in with the parents and that was really nice considering they live out of town and so we were away from the media glare and were able to come to terms with what was wrong in the relationship in the first place and what we needed to do to save our marriage.”

Asked about the biggest lesson he learnt from that, Eric says;

“I think the biggest lesson is honesty in a couple.”

He says being amicable persons in the relationship was a recipe for trouble but after ‘learning how to bring conflict into the marriage and to be able to have a safe space to solve conflicts’.
