Forget Kanye West’s ‘Famous’ Here Are Kenya’s Most Controversial Music Videos. Number 6 Is a Gospel Artiste

Since it premiered at ‘The Forum’ in Los Angeles and streamed on Tidal last Friday, people cannot stop talking about Kanye West’s NSFW music video ‘Famous’

The video showcases Bill Cosby, Taylor Swift, Caitlyn Jenner, Ray J, Kim Kardashian, Amber Rose, Chris Brown, Rihanna, Donald Trump, Anna Wintour, George W. Bush and Kanye West all lying naked on a giant bed.

The video has caused controversy with some people who found it disrespectful and invasive since some of the celebrities featured did not consent to it.

While others like Lena Dunham called it ‘one of the more disturbing “artistic” efforts in recent memory.’

As Kanye’s video continues to trend due to the controversy it garnered , today we look at some videos which have been controversial in the 254

1. Nishike by Sauti Sol

‘Nishike’ was the epitome of ‘good boys gone bad’ by Kenyan standards as the boys sang about sex and looked like ripped sex gods in the video.

By international standards, this video was child’s play but it caused such a huge fuss here that they lost some fans and lost some corporate endorsements.

All that over a shirtless video!

Controversy really sells as the video has close to 2 Million views on You Tube

2. Mfalme wa Mapenzi- Sanaipei Tande

2014 was a steamy year as ‘Mfalme Wa Mapenzi’ dropped soon after ‘Nishike’ showcasing a sexy Sanaipei Tande gyrating in lingerie in one scene and soaking up in a bathtub in another.

Again, by Kenyan standards this was steamy and indecent.’

3. Blaqy’s Money Maker

Maybe this video was controversial because it was tastelessly done. In one scene a greased up Risper Faith shakes her money maker and writhes on a table much to the chagrin of viewers who thought it was a tad too much.

The lazy lyrics did not seem to help the video but controversy aside, this video went viral.

4. Juala by Circute and Joel

Way before ‘Nishike’ and ‘Mfalme wa Mapenzi’ there was Manyake (Juala) that hoped to encourage the youth to used condoms to protect themselves from diseases. The message however seemed to get lost in the ‘balloon zina maji’ and other raunchy lyrics that had parents up in arms.

5. We Kamu-Nonini

Back in the day, Nonini knew how to get parents all turnt up over his bawdy lyrics.

Before these other youngins’ Nonini was the original king of controversy with lyrics like ‘ushawahi guzwa mahali ukasikia kukojoa’ driving parents crazy.

6. Missi-Willy Paul

The backlash mainly came from the gospel industry simply because it was shot in a club setting and had liquor bottles .

All in all it was actually a good song.
