Here’s the First Ever Kikuyu Artist to Get VEVO’d by YouTube

If you’ve ever looked up a music video on YouTube, often one of the first results you get takes you to the artist’s Vevo channel. But have you ever wondered what Vevo really is, apart from what you find on YouTube?

For starters, Vevo is not just another YouTube music channel. Described as “your personalized music video and music entertainment platform,” Vevo is a website created by Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and Abu Dhabi Media that seeks joint ventures with other sites to provide them with music video content. EMI licenses the content without taking an ownership stake.

Vevo has over 50,000 videos available, with Google and Vevo sharing the advertising revenue. According to its company profile, it’s been ranked as the number one music platform on the web. To cut the long story short, this channel offers so much for an artist than the most basic channel.

Anyhow, Ben Gichuhi, one of Kenya’s freshest talents in the gospel industry has become one the first ever ‘Kigooco’ artist to have a Vevo Channel. Famous for his hit song ‘Reke Tuine’, Ben has managed to gain massive following from Kenyans and lovers of vernacular gospel music.

“The message remains the same, even when you sing in your mother tongue, and I am honored to be on VEVO”, says Ben Gichuhi.
