I Went Out Over the Weekend and This is What I learnt About Kenyans…Come on With Me, Let me School You

As you are all probably aware, Blankets and Wine went down yesterday and I decided to attend. I didn’t want to go alone so I tagged along my bro considering he’s a huge fan of just a band and also because I hadn’t seen him in a long time. He came alongside his girlfriend, an extremely beautiful lass in investment banking and who happened to have great insights as to why the Kenyan banking sector is crumbling.

To cut the story short, we had a blast and on my way home I couldn’t help but wonder just how the family has been neglected and truth be told, it’s the smallest unit in a nation. You get that right and there is a high likelihood that the same will reciprocated from a countrywide perspective.

So here I am, back to my routine which includes endless agency briefs, celebrity paparazzi moments and a myriad of events. My bro will slowly find his way in the background and for a second he’ll be non-existent. The fact that he might have actually found a soul mate in his new found love will not hold any water in my mind and the fact that he might want my counsel on handling such matters since I’m a bit older will not be important at all; I have money to chase. So not to wish him bad luck, the next time I might actually pay some attention is when he calls and says he’s broken up with the girl and he’s devastated. Of course, I will swing into action but probably by then it will be too late.

Where I’m I heading with this you might be tempted to ask? Well, I’m trying to say that’s it’s about time the family assumes first position and takes centre stage in our lives. It’s about time as a man of the house, you get home early and enjoy your wife’s food while interacting with your kids because trust me, they need you. Don’t worry; the internet will still be there the next day.

It’s about time as siblings you check up on each other regularly. Call up your sister or cousin and find out what they are up to. You don’t want to be told that they’re getting married and you never even got the memo they were in a serious relationship. Don’t forget your folks too, they might be ailing and you might find out too late when they’re about to go.

Even better, hit them all up and bring them to the Pure Praise Family Concert to be held at KICC on the 24th of this month from noon until 6 PM. It promises to be a fun filled day where you guys can bond after church while enjoying some great performances from the likes of Rufftone, Mercy Masika, Daddy Owen, Size 8 and many other great artists. This is to be coupled up with some great tunes courtesy of DJ Mo and DJ Sadic.

In simple, it’s about time we took back the family and this concert looks like a perfect place to start…
