Audrey Mbugua and four transgender women smile all the way to the bank as court awards them Kes 30 million

Five transgender are celebrating after the court awarded them with a whopping 30 million. Audrey Mbugua and four other transgender women were granted their desired names besides the cash reward.

Audrey Mbugua moved to court in 2015 to sue Principal Registrar of Persons. The transgender wanted her name changed from Andrew Mbugua Ithibu to Audrey Mbugua Ithibu.

Mbugua moved to court to compel the Principal Registrar of Persons to effect the change of her name on the ID. The state was however reluctant to effect the name change.

Men become women

Audrey Mbugua Ithibu formerly Andrew Mbugua Ithibu.

The High Court awarded Kes 30 million costs to Audrey and four transgender women for denying them a name change.

The 30 million was awarded by the court to shoulder the cost of the litigation which commenced in 2015. An order was also granted to effect the transgender’s desired name changes.

The other four men who became women include; Maurine Muya formerly Maurice Muia, Alesandra Awino Ogeto, Maria Marius Mbugua and Dalziel Leone Wafula.
