Cebbie Nyasego Sets Her Sights on Politics

Elseba Awour, better known as Cebbie Nyasego, has set her sights on a new path: politics.

The sister of renowned Kenyan singer Akothee has been interested in politics since she was a young child. She even wrote her thesis on the subject in school.

Cebbie’s venture into politics began in 2022 when she received a nomination from the Jubilee Party for the Migori County Assembly (MCA) seat. However, her nomination sparked criticism from some Kenyans who questioned her qualifications for the position.

In an interview with Nairobi News, Cebbie addressed the public’s concerns and expressed her passion for making a difference in the political landscape.

“Yes, definitely, I am on the path to joining politics,” she said. “I can’t say more, but I can say I am walking towards that. It is something that I have wanted to do from my young age days. When you look at my school’s thesis, it was all about politics. I also find myself in political spaces a lot. I am on the right path. The only thing that is standing between me and my success is time, I give it, time.”

Cebbie declined to single out any specific political role models, but she did express admiration for her mother, whom she credits with instilling in her a strong sense of integrity.

“I look up to so many politicians,” she said. “My mum is my role model in everything including political affiliation and doings because of her integrity. She speaks of what she believes in. She stands by her truth whether she fails on not. I would want to emulate her.”

Cebbie also shared her thoughts on social media, which she acknowledges as a powerful platform but one that she does not rely on for her happiness.

“My life is complete,” she said. “If today I shut social media, without worrying about my career in terms of my development, I would be perfectly okay, very happy. Because other than growing my developments, there is nothing really that I can draw from social media during hiccups. It is a culture of confessing, and your sin could be bigger than mine; therefore, I don’t need to crucify you.”

Cebbie Nyasego is a rising star in Kenyan politics. With her passion, integrity, and strong sense of self, she is sure to make a significant impact on the political landscape.
