A tie in election is unheard of in Kenya but it happened in Kwale County to the surprise of everyone. Residents of Kinondo Ward will go back to the polls to choose their next MCA.

Jubilee candidate for Kinondo Ward, Kwale County was heading for victory until his closest rival managed to catch up with him in a rare comeback.

Juma Maone of Jubilee Party who is the incumbent MCA was leading ODM’s Omari Hamisi before results from the last tallying center indicated that the two candidates had garnered equal number of votes.

A certificate had been issued to Maone who was ahead of Omari despite results from one polling station in Msambweni not having been incorporated in the final tally at the time.

IEBC on Thursday August 10th was forced revoke the certificate they issued to Juma Maone after it emerged that Omari Hamisi had garnered similar number of votes with the Jubilee candidate.

When poll results from Msambweni were collated, the final tally showed that Maone and Omari had gotten similar count of votes – 2, 600 consequently leading to the revocation of the Jubilee candidate’s certificate.

According to Msambweni Constituency Returning Officer – Yusuf, the IEBC will set another date (yet to be communicated) for a by-election.
