Ghafla Awards 2022

2022 has been a great year for Kenyan entertainment as we saw the local scene bounce back following the almost devastating lockdowns that followed the pandemic.

We saw a resurgence in the careers of some already-established names who had taken a hiatus from their craft as well as the emergence of new Talent some of whom completely swept over the nation and left us in Warwick.
Ghafla Awards 2022 seeks to celebrate the very individuals who lit up not just the entertainment scene but our own personal lives with their talents which enriched Kenya’s pop culture.

So let’s go through the categories we generated and you let us know whether you agree with them or not:

BEST ACTOR OR ACTRESS

Njoro wa Uber

Njoro wa Uba

It goes without saying that he is one of the most talented local actors Kenya has produced in a very long time. She owns the role on and off the screen. It’s honestly difficult to envision someone else ever playing the role.

BEST TV NEWS ANCHOR

Mark Maasai- Former NTV anchor

Handsome and charismatic. He knew how to ask the difficult questions and coax are response.

BEST DJ

DJ Tophaz

In 2022 you couldn’t go anywhere and fail to hear one of his mixes.

BEST MALE ARTIST

Willy Paul

He is a true representation of having an organic fan base as most mainstream media and corporates completely shunned him but that has not stopped him from amassing millions of views on a songs on YouTube. He truly is Kenya’s definition of a sleeper artist asthough most like to underrate him, he still manages to score big with bangers. What’s even more amazing is just how consistent he has been.s

BEST FEMALE ARTIST

Femi One

Kenya’s most consistent female rapper seems to have a knack for releasing some of the dopest tracks.

BEST GROUP OR COLLABO

Wakadinali

Is Wakadinali Kenya's most underrated rap group?
Wakadinali

As we discussed this particular award we were all unanimous that it had to go to none other than Wakadinali. They do not play industry politics they do not get radio support and yet they have the streets entirely on lock.

BEST NEW ARTIST

Vic West

You might not know who he is but you’ve definitely no his song it is the biggest song of 2022 (Vic West – Kuna Kuna ft. Fathermoh, Savara, Brandy Maina & Thee Exit Band). By a wide margin he is the best new artist of the year.

BEST MUSIC PRODUCER

Motif Di Don

Motif Di Don
Motif Di Don

I mean he’s able to sample some hilarious clips off the rip and make bangers out of them what more can we say? Not to mention the fact that he’s responsible for some of the best songs of 2022.

BEST MUSIC VIDEO

Abebo by Bahati

2022 was a difficult year for bahati given just how poorly the mathare parliamentary elections went for him. He was able to bounce back and give us a hell of a truck whose video is truly artistic. Rich and vibrant the choreography is awesome the video Vixens and models as well this by our humble estimation was the music video of the Year.

BEST SONG

Kuna Kuna by Vic West.

There really can be no debating this one. You cannot go anywhere to escape this song be it public transportation, radio stations for the clubs.

BEST RADIO PRESENTER

King Kalala

We really do need to appreciate her charisma and just how much he has grown as a radio personality.

BEST TIKTOKER

Njoki Murira

We could almost draw parallels to Khaby Lame in the sense that she does not speak in any of her videos but simply twerks. This alone has been sufficient for her to a mass millions of followers on tik-tok

BEST INSTAGRAMMER

Andrew Kibe

Let’s tell the truth he has single-handedly made kenyan Instagram exciting. You would be hard-pressed to find anyone with as rabid a fanbase as his.

BEST YOUTUBER

Austin Muigai

He truly is an upstart with an amazing sense of humour and the 2020 was his breakout year we can only wait upon bated breath to see what next year has in store for him.
