Githurai policeman with gun suspected of robbing

On February 14, 2024, a suspected robber was fatally shot in Githurai Area after engaging in a shootout with the police, resulting in his demise. Two accomplices managed to evade capture during the incident.

The police were alerted to the suspects’ activities, involving attacks on pedestrians and others, leading to the fatal encounter. The deceased robber was found in possession of a loaded pistol containing two bullets, which has been seized as evidence.

Forensic tests conducted by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) aim to determine if the seized pistol has been involved in other criminal activities. The deceased’s body has been transported to the City Mortuary pending postmortem and identification.

A manhunt is currently underway for the two remaining suspects who fled the scene. Authorities encourage anyone with information to come forward.

Nairobi County police boss Adamson Bungei issued a stern warning to suspected criminals terrorizing the city, assuring that there are sufficient police officers deployed across Nairobi estates to address criminal elements.

This incident occurred just three days after another confrontation with suspected robbers, resulting in the death of two individuals in a failed robbery targeting a local supermarket along Raphta Road in Kilimani, Nairobi County. The apprehended suspects had a pistol loaded with six bullets and two knives. The police also recovered the motorcycle used by the suspects during the attempted robbery. The duo was spotted by vigilant supermarket attendants, prompting swift police action.
