In Nairobi carwash, motorist loses gun with 15 shots.

An investigation has been launched by Nairobi police following the loss of a motorist’s firearm at a carwash in Hurlingham.

The owner of the firearm reported to the police that he had taken his vehicle for cleaning, but upon his return, he discovered that his loaded Ceska pistol, containing 15 bullets, was missing.

According to a police report, the civilian firearm license holder stated that he had left the gun inside his car while it was being attended to by the carwash staff on Tuesday afternoon. However, upon his return, the firearm was nowhere to be found.

Law enforcement officers visited the carwash premises and questioned the attendants, but no arrests were made at that time.

Police are conducting a thorough search for the missing weapon, expressing concerns that it could potentially be used in criminal activities.

This incident echoes a similar case in October 2023, when a patron at a popular club in Milimani, Nairobi, inadvertently left behind his firearm in a restroom.

According to police reports, the firearm, identified as a Steyr C9-A2 MF pistol loaded with 16 bullets, was discovered resting on the cistern of the restroom shortly after the owner had exited both the restroom and the establishment.

Witnesses promptly notified the authorities, who took custody of the firearm. Detectives at the scene stated their intention to trace the firearm’s owner for further questioning, amid fears that the weapon could have fallen into unauthorized hands.

It serves as a reminder of the importance of securely storing firearms, especially for civilian firearm permit holders. Regulations stipulate that such weapons should either remain within the owner’s sight or be securely stored in their residence at all times.
