Information about a gangster preacher planning a Kitui heist has surfaced

Additional information has surfaced regarding the pastor and worshipper involved in a violent robbery at Kavisuni market in Kitui, shedding light on their dual lives as religious figures and criminals.

The pastor, Ezekiel Muinde Mwangangi, was a well-known figure in the local community, serving as a preacher at Heaven City Chapel in the Soweto area of Kitui. Despite his religious role, Mwangangi and his unidentified accomplice harbored a darker agenda.

Last week, they executed a robbery at a wholesale shop owned by Muli Munyoki, posing as police officers investigating stolen goods. However, their true intentions were revealed when they robbed Munyoki at gunpoint.

The situation escalated when police officers from the nearby Kavisuni police station intervened. The robbers attempted to flee on a motorcycle but were confronted by law enforcement. Ignoring commands to surrender, they brandished weapons, resulting in Mwangangi being fatally shot while his accomplice escaped with gunshot wounds.

Further investigation unveiled the meticulous planning behind the robbery. Mwangangi, originally from Tiva village in the Kwa Vonza area, enlisted his accomplice to deceive a friend into lending them a motorcycle under false pretenses.

The revelation of Mwangangi’s involvement in criminal activities has shocked the local community. Kalimani chief Cyrus Kitwai Malombe, who confirmed Mwangangi’s leadership role in the Soweto church, expressed disbelief at the pastor’s double life.

The community, once familiar with Mwangangi’s religious engagements, is now grappling with the reality of his criminal behavior. The church had recently held a week-long crusade in Soweto Township, where Mwangangi actively participated.

According to Kitui County Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Eng Samuel Bett, the police were initially unaware of the robbers’ religious affiliations. The investigation has since progressed, with several individuals questioned, including the motorcycle owner, and members of the public providing crucial information.
