Kenya Power Announces Power Outages In Five Counties, Arrests Mastermind Of Transformer Vandalism

On Monday, October 9, 2023, Kenya Power announced that there would be scheduled power outages in select parts of five counties: Nairobi, Nyamira, Kakamega, Bungoma, and Nyeri.

The outages will affect the following areas and times:

  • Nairobi: Peponi, General Mathenge, and Lavington from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Nyamira: Nyamira town, Kebirigo, and Makairo from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Kakamega: Kaburengu and Luandeti from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
  • Bungoma: Areas surrounding Pan Africa chemicals from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
  • Nyeri: Ihwagi, Giakaibei, Gikumbo, Kiandu, Makutano, and Kigwandi from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Kenya Power also announced that its security team had arrested the mastermind of transformer vandalism within Murang’a County. Five vandals were arrested with the help of officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI)’s Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau (CRIB) and National Government Administration Officers (NGAO).

Kenya Power thanked the DCI and NGAO officers for their swift action and said that they will continue to carry out surveillance on the network to weed out all illegal activities. They also asked members of the public to be watchful of energy infrastructure and report suspicious activities to the nearest police station or Kenya Power office.
