Mathe wa Ngara Demands Answers On Ksh13.4 Million Seized By Police

Nancy Kigunzu, popularly known as Mathe wa Ngara, has demanded answers on the whereabouts of the Ksh13.4 million that was seized from her alleged drug den during a police raid last week.

Kigunzu, through her lawyers Danstan Omari and Cliff Ombeta, questioned why the money had been moved from the police station where it was supposed to be kept as an exhibit.

“The integrity of the proceedings in this matter are critical. Assets Recovery Agency is not a party to this case before you. Who has the custody of that exhibit?” the lawyers asked.

The prosecution responded by saying that they would provide documents to confirm the chain of custody of the money in due course.

The Ksh13.4 million was seized by police when they raided Kigunzu’s drug den in Ngara. However, last Friday, the High Court ordered that the money be deposited into the Assets and Recovery Agency’s (ARA) preservation account at the Kenya Commercial Bank (KCB).

Kigunzu was arrested at the Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) shortly after she had filed a petition in court to stop her imminent arrest.

At the time of her arrest, the police also recovered 26 bags of Cannabis Sativa (Marijuana), four cartons of rolling materials, 173 pieces of suspected blended drug/bhang, and 42 cartons each containing 200 pieces of cigarettes
