Meet Avocadoman…Father of 12 and casual laborer has wowed netizens for flooring Jubilee candidate in Jubilee stronghold

Avocadoman – a casual laborer who did all sorts of odd jobs to make ends meet, against insurmountable odds trounced Jubilee’s Philip Kimitai Koskei to win.

His unique nickname ‘Avocado’ caught the attention of netizens who were struggling to comprehend how he won MCA seat in Chemosot ward, Kericho County – a Jubilee stronghold that mostly voted 6 piece.

William Soi Kipkurui otherwise known as Avocadoman has now become internet sensation as Kenyans continue to share his story on social networking platforms.

The 45 year old father of 12 (9 boys and 3 girls) who vied for MCA seat as an independent candidate won the seat with 6,098 votes (56.87%) against Jubilee’s Philip Koskei who garnered 4,260 votes (39.73%).

Before the elections, Avocadoman did odd jobs in the village including being a casual laborer at Litein Tea Factory and a photographer.

Soi’s first stab at the MCA seat in 2013 ended in disarray even after he took a gamble and sold half an acre of his land for Kes 750, 000 which he used for campaign.

Avocadoman campaigns in Chemosot ward

In 2017, Avocadoman lost in the Jubilee Party primaries but he maintained that he was the rightful winner and went on to vie for the seat as an independent candidate.

“I am thankful to Chemosot residents who believed in my leadership qualities. I must also say my win is a miracle from God.  It was not lost on the residents that I had won the Jubilee Party primaries but it was unfortunate that I was denied the party ticket, leaving me with no option but to seek election as an independent candidate,” Avocadoman told the Standard.
