Photos of President Uhuru’s elder sister Margaret Wambui Kenyatta who died on Wednesday April 5th aged 89

President Uhuru Kenyatta and his family have been bereaved; the Kenyattas have lost their kin who passed on yesterday April 5th 2017.

The president’s sister Margaret Wambui Kenyatta died at a Nairobi hospital after a short illness, she was 89 years old.

The deceased was the daughter of Jomo Kenyatta and his first wife Grace Nyokabi Wahu. Margaret is best remembered for being the first African woman mayor of Nairobi city and the second African woman in the country to hold the position – she was deputy mayor of Nairobi in 1966 and mayor in 1971.

Margaret also served as Kenya’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations from 1976 to 1986. She was never married and did not have children.
