The rivalry between Meru Governor Peter Munya and Senator Kiraitu Murungi is threatening to plunge the otherwise peaceful county into violence. And Rachel Ruto was in Meru yesterday to make sure this doesn’t happen.

Rachel Ruto graced a crusade organized by Full Gospel Church of Kenya in Meru town on Wednesday July 5th. The main purpose of the crusade was to preach peace and unity in Meru ahead of August 8th general election.

Clan politics is threatening the peace in the miraa County; political difference between Peter Munya and Kiraitu Murungi who are both vying for gubernatorial seat has divided the people of Meru into clans.

Munya is seeking re-election on a Party of National Unity (PNU) while Kiraitu with his Jubilee ticket is on a mission to unseat him.

Rachel Ruto preached and prayed for peace in Meru, she urged residents not to start the ugly politics that wreaked havoc in parts of Rift Valley years back.

“What I want to encourage the people of Meru County is to stay united. The Bible says a house that I divided against itself cannot stand. Meru County constituents, let us embrace the spirit of brotherhood. Let us stay united. We’ve been watching on TV news items from Meru County which show a lot of things happening in Meru County. But I’d love to tell you, the people of Meru County that division is not your portion.

“There are challenges facing people from other regions in the country, with a major challenge being tribalism…for instance in Rift Valley. What I know, Meru County has never been affected by tribalism and I urge you not to start what God does not want you to start,” Rachel Ruto said.
