Questions linger over Ken Walibora’s death, was he murdered?

There are several unanswered questions surrounding the death of renowned author and respected journalist Prof Ken Walibora even as Kenyans try to come to terms with his sudden demise.

The earlier narrative was that he had been knocked down by a speeding Double M bus but it is now emerging that he had been stabbed and he was running away from his assailants when the accident occurred.

Speaking to journalists on Saturday, April 18, Chief Government Pathologist Johansen Oduor explained that the nature of the wound on Walibora’s hand was inconsistent with what an accident could have caused.

“The wound on the right hand was caused by a sharp trauma. When someone is hit by a vehicle, the wound is usually indicative of being hit by a blunt object. This one was sharp,” he explained.

What is even more puzzling is that it’s not clear why the 56-year-old author had gone to do in Muthurwa and why he had parked his car along Kijabe Street, almost three kilometers away.

Unconfirmed reports indicate that an ambulance that was first on the scene of the accident refused to carry him and when he was finally taken to Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH), he was unattended to until he died.

Eyewitnesses revealed that he was running away from some street urchins when the Double M bus – which was coming from the Central Business District (CBD) – knocked him down.

Police have launched investigations into Walibora’s mysterious death and they will be relying on CCTV footage from the Integrated Command, Control and Communication Directorate to help them unravel the matter.
