Babu Owino is disenchanted with the taxation imposed by the government on beauty products in the country.
He criticised President William Ruto for imposing tax on the beauty industry which has for many years been left untouched.
Owino on Sunday said it is not good for the government to steal from ladies.
According to Owino, the beauty industry serves a significant purpose in creating revenue for the country. How? Well, he claims that most Kenyan ladies are beautified with products such as wigs & weaves.
“A real man should not steal from ladies. Our ladies are now putting on these wigs and weaves to attract tourists,” he said.
“Kenyans will lose billions of dollars because tourists will cease coming here. Because a lot of taxes are now going to purchase these items that our ladies are using,” Owino said.

Like the rest of us, I am doubtless that DJ Evolve and his father like the idea and notion of justice. So I truly do believe that when the Dj was shot in the neck by Babu Owino, they were furious in their fight to get justice for their son.
However, after they went through the dog and pony show to get their son treated and then pursue justice, Kenyans were dismayed to see that the family under the leadership of their patriarch had decided to drop all charges against the Embakasi East MP. It felt like they had sold out -because they had.
“I hear some people claiming that I exchanged my son’s case for money. What do people take me for? A callous man who would sell his son’s welfare the way a farmer would sell his goat at the market? I am a Christian, and my conscience wouldn’t allow me to do that.
I know there are people who would wish to see Babu Owino in jail. But, what would we gain if he is sent to prison and my son dies?”

However, upon further reflection, you will realise that what DJ Evolve’s father did was for his son’s benefit. Why? Because when you think about it, what he did is exactly what is needed to give his child the best possible outcome from the extremely shtty circumstances.
DJ Evolve was minding his own business, spinning the wheels of steel at the decks of BClub when he got shot in an incident that left him crippled from the neck down. Kenya is a shithole nation with no social security programs nor a social safety net for people in his situation. What that means is that if Babu Owino is successfully arrested and jailed, then they are left fighting to fend for what amounts to an invalid son.

It is a terrible burden to bear; deciding whether or not to punish the man who (unprovoked) put your son in this helpless situation or whether to be pragmatic and seek a way for you to alleviate his suffering and put him in a situation in which he can make ends meet and pay the bills for his healthcare.
You cannot imagine how difficult it must have been for him to utter the words “I have decided to forgive Babu Owino (the man who could easily have killed my son).” But in our hubris as Kenyans, we dare to shame him for not honouring our lofty ideals of justice like we had contributed a single cent to help him pay his son’s hospital bills. That is why I am firmly in the camp that supports his decision. It was what was in DJ Evolve’s best interests.

Now the uphill task will be holding Embakasi East’s finest to his word. No prizes for guessing how I think that will go. But time will tell. And that is where we as Kenyans need to actually support him and his son -ensuring the politician honours his promises to them because at the end of the day, in Kenya contracts and the law aren’t enough to hold the rich accountable and responsible.

I get it, we all knew Babu Owino was shameless given the mere fact that he is a Kenyan politician (politicians are a low species but Kenyan politicians are trash) but the way he has handled DJ Evolve’s recent tragedy is just so low it is disgusting.
For those of you not in the know, allow me to remind you of how a video surfaced allegedly showing the Embakasi East Member of Parliament shooting DJ Evolve in the neck. Yup, that is a thing that mainstream media doesn’t do nearly enough to highlight.

And Babu Owino has since shown just how low a man he can be, devoid of honour as he used his victim’s plight to push his own agenda and fuel his PR engine to showcase himself as being a changed, even redeemed man.
And now, DJ Evolve’s family is reeling from the loss of their mother. She, unfortunately, passed away and guess who chose this as a moment to speak on? Was it DJ Evolve? Of course not, from all the reports we have received, mans can hardly speak. It was Babu Owino.
Yup, Babu Owino took to his social media account to start mouthing off about the fact that she is no longer with us. I just facepalmed myself so hard, I reset my factory settings.
Why did his handlers not tell him to remain silent? Why did the people around him allow him to stumble into this mess? Also, what is so hard about simply shutting the F up?

I mean, listen, we get it, he is a Kenyan politician and we should anticipate the worst and lowest behaviour from them but one would have to think that someone as smart as Babu Owino would know to control his lower instincts.
As in, just let these issues go. Not everything demands a commentary. Some things just need to be marked by a sombre silence. Do not involve us in your shenanigans.

What babu should have done is to silently reach out to the family he adversely affected. That is all that matters. He needs to move in silence and actually try to get the family better. There is no reason for him to step into the spotlight. None!
But as I said, he is not just a politician, he is a Kenyan politician.

Babu Owino is a great example of why many people have lost faith in not only the judiciary but Kenya as a whole. That is why so many of our most creative minds, our most analytic minds, so many of our best and brightest take the first opportunity to leave the country and never look back. If anything, their families celebrate them for doing so.
To understand what I am rambling about, allow me to dredge up an occurrence from the not so distant past in which Babu Owino actually took aim at and shot DJ Evolve while they were partying at a club the DJ was working at.

From what we have seen on the videos that were shared around, there wasn’t an altercation nor was Babu Owino’s life threatened. He just pulled out his gun and shot DJ Evolve in the neck. The chilling occurrence was further explained to have been a falling out over the fact that Babu Owino had requested for a song that DJ Evolve didn’t feel well placed in his set so he declined to play the song.
Babu Owino was cool and calm in the manner in which he conducted himself as he shot Evolve, not knowing whether or not the DJ would survive and I would posit that he didn’t care. However, the matter is currently in court and has been pushed off in a manner we all as Kenyans recognize -laws for thee, none for me. Or simply put, wanyonge hawana haki.

It is, therefore, an indictment of our society when you see Babu Owino busy talking about taking the fight to Otile Brown when it comes to fighting for the Embakasi East parliamentary seat rather than him focusing on beating his legal case. It is quite telling that he is focused on politics rather than fighting for his freedom. It’s almost as though the court’s decision is a foregone conclusion. And that is troubling.
We can talk about setting worrying precedence but this is nothing new in Kenya.
And this is proof that Kenya is indeed a broken society. We cannot even expect the courts to hand out justice. We are instead left to fend for ourselves and pray that we never find ourselves in DJ Evolves shoes because though he is lucky to have survived, he is currently paralyzed.
Babu Owino is currently in the crosshairs of the Kenyan public as citizens and netizens agitate for a victim in a shooting he is seen as culpable for, DJ Evolve.
Kenyans have even set up a digital petition to call for the government and the judiciary, in particular, to see that the matter is not only speedily concluded but is also concluded in a just and fair manner.
The Babu Owino situation actually has injected some much needed civic participation in political matters as many had decried the perception the Embakasi East Member of Parliament had been cleansed of his past inequities by his acceptance of the BBI move and his eagerness to sing songs about it.
But even as we look into the matter and ensure DJ Evolve gets the justice he and indeed the rest of us Kenyans so desperately need, we need to remember yet another young member of parliament also had a situation that was resolved in a less than transparent manner and many felt justice had been cheated and defeated.
And in this part we are going to put away Babu Owino momentarily and focus on Starehe Member of Parliament Jaguar or as the government knows him, Charles Kanyi Njagua.
Does anyone remember that he was involved in some obscure capacity in an accident that was so sketchy the only clear aspect of it is that it resulted in the deaths of some pedestrians? And the outcome of that is that he ended up in court to answer for the accident that cost the lives of Kenyans and it was silently resolved in 2019.
The accident occurred at Makutano on the Nairobi-Nyeri highway, within Kirinyaga County on March 21, 2017 along Sagana and in February Jaguar who had some beef at one time with Babu Owino, was convicted of the deaths.
And he was apparently asked to pay forty thousand in restitution. Let that sink in. Two people died; a bodaboda operator and his passenger and what punishment was instituted against Jaguar? The princely sum of forty thousand Kenya shillings or 400 UsD.
How then can we say we do not understand why Babu Owino is unfazed with the cries for justice that a section of the Kenyan populace is making? He is clearly just following the logical observations made in the case of his colleague Jaguar. And now, Jaguar is currently in court facing charges of incitement in a country where post-election violence was an actual thing…
Let that realization sink in. We as a society expect the Babu Owinos and Jaguars not to act in a manner similar to this if they know that their actions will have no repercussions to meet them.
DJ Evolve recently granted an interview to NTV in which he recounted what he can remember from the fateful night when Embakasi East Member of Parliament Babu Owino shot him in the neck. I should highlight the word allegedly because the way justice is set up in Kenya, even if we all saw a video “purportedly” showing the shooting, I do not want to fall afoul of the law.
DJ Evolve has since then been in hospital before only recently being discharged to the care of his family where he is still confined in a bed. Babu Owino however, has continued on with his life after a court granted him bail and he has gone on to politick about BBI.
And from the look of things, before DJ Evolve had spoken about the matter, Babu Owino had seemingly already been forgiven by the masses who had gone on to declare their love for him.
And you can’t help but wonder first about the intelligence of Kenyans who celebrate near murderers -because the truth is, Babu Owino has DJ Evolve’s God and his own shit aim to thank for the fact that he did not end DJ Evolve’s life.
The second is the realization that Babu Owino is not the first in a long line of Kenyan politicians who have been allowed to get away with downright criminal acts and all we do is forgive them because they are singing the political tune that is the most popular or in line with the sitting government of the days.
Julius Sunkuli did not have to face the law for his actions, he faced no reprimand in parliament or even from his boss, then-President Daniel Toroitich arap Moi. These girls got no justice. And we as a people allowed this to happen.
And the same seems to be what is in store for Babu Owino as he has been going on with his life as if he didn’t just paralyze a man and deny him the ability to earn a living as a DJ. Ofcourse, the loud folk at Twitter have been clamouring for justice but on this matter, I cannot see how they will manage to rage against the machine.

That doesn’t mean we should give up. We need to champion DJ Evolve’s role and ensure justice is served for this young man robbed of what could have been a rich life. I am doing my part, will you?

Isn’t it interesting to see just how much popular Babu Owino has become all of a sudden with the “fairer sex”? Babu Owino has had the biggest come back of 2020 and the year is not even halfway through. The Embakasi East Member of Parliament was in the political doghouse after he was allegedly captured on camera shooting DJ Evolve in the neck at point-blank range.
That action once upon a time would have been enough to end his political career. And indeed, many a political pundit expected it to but he has somehow managed to rebound and become even more popular all as the victim of that alleged shooting still lies on a hospital bed.
But what is behind his resurgence to popularity among Kenyan women? Surely there has to be a logical explanation as to why even celebrities like Vera Sidika are thirsting after Babu Owino and Akothee is falling over herself to Baptist him as a man born anew.
What is it about Babu Owino that makes him stand out in a sea of 349 MPs? I mean, sure not all of them are men but out of that collective, why does Babu Owino stand out to the point women feel no shame having him as their MCM while the likes of Jaguar go largely ignored? Let us delve right into it.
For starters, Babu Owino dresses well. This is one of the facts that a lot of men underrate. Men largely believe they can dress in anything along as they have a fat bank account. And those same men then start to complain about their only attracting gold-diggers. What do you expect if you are attracting women expecting them to look beyond arousal cues and instead focus on “more than just clothes”? What do you think women will focus on if they are ignoring their arousal instincts?
Babu knows how to dress to accentuate his lithe frame. And in an August House filled to the brim with fuddy daddies, this is a huge advantage to him.
Secondly, Babu Owino has a decent body. As I pointed out above, Embakasi East’s Member of Parliament is in far better shape than his colleagues. We could take the example of Jaguar who also dresses well as well as the example of George Theuri. These two men dress well but they are fat. Human beings did not evolve to be fat and this from an evolutionary standpoint is unattractive to both members of the opposite sex.
He has a bad boy reputation and quite the mean streak. Babu came up through the ranks of Nairobi University politics and rose to become the chairman of SONU. Those of you who have experienced public university politics know it to be a cutthroat affair where opponents usually set each other up with serious health implications. Bwana Owino was able to make a name for himself in a race of thugs and this gave him a serious bad boy mystique. Then add to that the charges he is currently facing involving an alleged shooting incident at B Club and you kinda see why he is the ultimate bad boy.
Babu Owino is demonstrably a handsome man. Please, go debate this point with your girlfriend.
He has status. The fact that he is a popular ODM lieutenant means he attracts a lot of media attention. Add to this the fact that in Kenya, politicians were the first generation celebrities and you understand why he has so much status and social equity. Lord knows women love a famous man and who has a better chance of being famous across the entire country quite like a politician?
And finally, Babu Owino is rich. In a third world shithole like Kenya, MPs and other politicians are at the top of the socio-economic totem pole. Being a rich man allows whichever woman you choose to know her provisionally needs are taken care of so a lot of Kenya’s women would cream themselves at the chance to catch his attention.
