Ndembele massacre

Mnangagwa is a notorious and much-feared figure in Zimbabwe having led vicious crackdown on opponents of Mugabe’s regime.

He was nicknamed ‘Crocodile’ after leading a dreaded North Korean-trained Fifth Army brigade in an operation against Ndembele tribe.

Mnangagwa led the 1983-84 massacre of Ndebele people in Matabeleland. Mugabe’s then fiercest political rival Joshua Nkomo came from Matabeland.
