Eric Musyoka, the iconic producer who took Kenyan music to greater heights

It’s hard to talk about Kenyan music without mentioning the name of Decimal Records CEO Eric Musyoka, popularly known as Musyox. He has been very instrumental in shaping the Kenyan sound.

In the early to mid 2000s when Calif Records and Ogopa Deejays were beefing, the award-winning producer, who is now 38, was working at Homeboyz Entertianment.

While at the stable which is owned by the Rabar family, Musyoka produced songs for the musicians like; Prezzo, TID, Mr Lenny, Nameless, AY, Wyre, Peter Miles, Nikki, Nonini, just to name a few.

He then took a break and went for further studies at the SAE Institute in the US in 2006. Upon his return, he formed Decimal Records and signed P-Unit.

If you ask me, I will tell you that the group that was made up Frasha, Bon Eye and Gabu is one of Musyoka’s greatest achievements to this day. He literally propelled them to greater heights.

Musyoka and Bon Eye

What most people do not know is that the three started off as Nonini’s dancers and back-up singers and by 2010 they had won several awards including a MTV Africa Music Award (MAMA). Take a moment and let that sink in.

At Decimal, Musyoka has also worked with Just A Band, Juliani, Daddy Owen, Sauti Sol, Elani, Octopizzo and many more. Put simply, there is a high chance that he has produced a jam for your favourite Kenyan artist.

When all is said and done, he will be remembered for nurturing talents and taking Kenyan music to the continental stage because he started  producing music at a time when most artists were just focusing on their local audiences.

Musyoka is one of the producers who changed the game by ensuring our music could transcend our borders and this led to artists getting so many shows outside the country.

He’s a legend in his own right and it saddens me that most people will realize this after he hangs up his boots because as they say, you never miss something until it’s gone.

Watch one of his most popular jams dubbed Furahi Day by Nonini and Nameless below.

Gabu bashed by fans for calling the late President Moi ‘Mwizi’

P Units cofounder Gabu gave many a reason to bash him on social media shortly after sharing a message; ‘sending’ condolences to the late President Moi’s family as seen on his Instagram page.

The late President Daniel arap Moi with President Uhuru

Despite many remembering the late President for his good service and zeal to fight against corrupt leaders; Gabu was among those who felt that all he did was steal from the public – just like most politicians have been doing.

To send off the late President, Gabu proved that he did not come to play as he went on to share a controversial message; without caring what people would say. The singer wrote;

Mwizi amepumzika

Gabu

Respect the late president

Anyway since Gabu is entitled to his own opinion; there are those who felt that he should have at least maintained his silence that particular message.

There are those like Terence Creative who openly asked the P Unit member to allow the late President Moi to Rest In Peace other than call him out on social media.

Below are just a few screenshots for the singer’s post.

P Units Gabu caught on camera taking a dump in a bucket at a hotel lobby

Gabu taking a dump?

Controversial video

The video which seems to have been taken by one of his friends shows Gabu running while holding a newspaper – then heads to sit on what appears to be a trash can where he pulls his pants down.

Not quite sure what he does in the bucket but the popular singer uses a page from the newspaper to wipe himself; before running away.

Well, this is however not the first time we are witnessing a celebrity pull such a stunt to create controversy on social media. Anyway watch the video below.

The new hit song to be released Koroga is a blend of three nationals including; the director Kenny, originally wasafi records producer.

Speaking about his new collaboration, Gabu opened up saying;

“Arrow Bwoy is a great artist  in east Africa and Daddy Andre has a different  kind of style and sound. And therefore the blend among  the three acts would take the market by force.”

“It’s an African sure hit song from east Africa of course, big up to Gabu and Arrow Bwoy for inviting me on board to get this track, it is a blessing to me.”

Koroga

The trio layered arrangement expresses ambitious orchestrations, more of a concert band with distorted electronic synthesizer that act as the melodic instrument; the lyrical inspiration is a club song and a different kind of style by all the artists in it.

Therefore this attracts a more concert setting with African dances Koroga is a brooding number, containing a blend of melancholic yet entertaining lines that discuss finding ones comfort, the three acts alongside Churchill are the lyrical geniuses behind the hit.

Video concept

The video shot in Tanzania features beautiful models and flexy guys in an outside performance; while Gabu focuses on an indoor performance.

So far the hot sizzling hot banger is definitely about to give most artists a run for their money.
