Singer Jaguar injured after traders fight with county askaris, rushed to Karen Hospital

Starehe Member of Parliament Charles Njagua was among those injured on Wednesday evening after raucous erupted in CBD between city council askaris and traders of Muthurwa, Marikiti and Wakulima markets.

The MP, who also goes by his stage name Jaguar, suffered a dislocated ankle and was rushed to Nairobi Hospital. Jaguar said that trouble started as county officials moved in on hawkers who had sought refuge at the market.

“The county operators had been looking for hawkers who went to hide in the market. Their arrest of the innocent man led to a deadly confrontation,” Jaguar said.

Adding:

“I came to the rescue of the traders and tried to talk to the officers but little did I know that they had called for reinforcement. They threw tear gas canisters, forcing the people to scamper for safety,” the MP said. “It was during the commotion that there was a stampede.”

Jaguar: Business is hard because presenters and DJs also want to be stars

Singer Jaguar is now also a politician. He recently worked with veteran rapper and once an enemy, Prezzo, for his latest release called Timika which has gotten a lukewarm reception.

Jaguar, however, sates that the music industry has changed and that’s why artists are struggling. Simply because hungry DJs and radio presenter are also demanding a piece of the pie unlike what used to happen in his younger days.

“During our time, we used to get money but things have changed. Then, a radio presenter would just be that — a presenter, but these days presenters and deejays want to be stars, competing with musicians,” said the Starehe MP.

Music flows in my blood

Jaguar said that even though he’s in parliament now, music will always be a part of him.

Even though I am an MP now, I will always be an artiste, because I believe in the power of art. And our country is blessed with immense talent. I am a musician at heart because it is my passion and talent,” says Jaguar.

Adding:

“There is a Bill in Parliament, and I have been urging all artistes to sit down and agree on the issues they want challenged so that they can present them to us to take forward. But unity among artistes is also another thing,” he said.

“We have youthful leaders in Parliament some of who have begun their careers in the entertainment industry and will push these issues because they understand them well.”

Jaguar following in president Uhuru Kenyatta’s footsteps

Musician Charles Njagua, popularly known as Jaguar, was declared the Starehe MP flag bearer for the ruling Jubilee Party a few months ago and has been campaigning as he hopes to beat Steve Mbogo who is running for the same seat but under an ODM ticket come August 8th.

For that reason Jaguar continues to be a man of the people as he tries to blend in everywhere he goes. I bumped into a few photos of the musician turned politician dressed in a white Kanzu – (an ankle-length Arab garment, with long sleeves and is usually worn by Muslim men).

Jaguar had stepped out to join Muslim brothers and sisters as they celebrated Eid a few weeks ago. The dressing up is obviously part of blending in…with people from the Muslim community – an art president Uluru Kenyatta has mastered over the years.

On the other hand…it is good to note that Jaguar pulled the look just fine and he definitely looks amazing. Below are a few photos courtesy of his Instagram page;
