Janet Mbugua explains why she stopped smoking shisha

Janet Mbugua used to be a smoker but she stopped it anyway. The former Citizen TV anchor recently explained to her fans why she quit her smoking habit.

Scientists say a habitual shisha smoker might breathe in much more poisonous fumes during an hour-long session than a typical cigarette smoker inhales in a few days.

Apparently shisha smoking can be as damaging, addictive, and dangerous as cigarettes, because the tobacco is no less toxic in a water-pipe.

But the dangers associated with smoking shisha is not what prompted Janet Mbugua to stop smoking the fruit-scented tobacco that is burnt using charcoal.

Speaking to her fans on Instagram Live, Janet Mbugua explained that she quit smoking shisha after she got her son Ethan Huru Ndichu.

Former Citizen TV’s news anchor Janet Mbugua is now among the celebrated mothers we have come across in the entertainment industry.

Allow me to say that she understands the importance of giving her family their time despite her busy schedule – making her look like a super mommy judging from how she juggles her projects and the time she spares to spend with her small family.

Just recently the lady shared a couple of new photos where she is seen playing with her son but what caught my attention is her living room which can be seen in the background.

Janet Mbugua defiantly has good taste when it comes to interior designs and this can be seen from the small details seen in the new photos showing off her classy living room which also happens to be baby proofed now that baby Huru can walk around the house.

Janet Mbugua talks about her struggles as a mum, wife and a working lady! (Details)

Every mom out there can relate to the exhausting feeling that a long day brings. Whether it’s keeping up with your little ones when then nest is empty or going to the office (work)…mothers are the hardest working people around.

Well, former news anchor Janet Mbugua has opened up about some of the few reasons she has been very reluctant when it comes to sharing her family photos and why till date she finds it hard to balance work and her family.

She revealed this in a post shared on her Instagram page this past weekend where she wrote saying;

I’m not huge on sharing family photos, not all the time at least. I may occasionally do so on my Insta stories. But this here is a real moment. Shared laughed, in between moments of fatigue, being cranky, not always being sure of what I’m really doing, or my methods when it comes to raising a new family! I’m learning that this life, balancing all things, is far from easy. It can consume you and sometimes you just need a moment, away from people and projects, to conquer the everyone will understand. But ultimately, it’s a most fulfilling life, abounding with lessons that will certainly better me. Hands up if you feel me! Also Happy Sunday ??#TheJourneywithJanet#IAmMotherhood

I’m also deeply aware of how blessed and lucky I’ve been. The opportunity to have been a Broadcast Journalist for 10 years has been humbling and rewarding, with 5 of those years spent at Citizen TV. For that I’d like to thank Farida Karoney and Wachira Waruru, who have believed in me through and through. I know the moment is right for me to take a sabbatical; breathe, reflect, pursue my passion projects in earnest and spend time with my young family. Janet Mbugua opens up about postpartum vaginal bleeding which she first experienced while she was at a salon

Strength of a woman ehh! Janet Mbugua must have nerves of steel to come out and narrate what she went through after giving birth to her son.

Any laymen would think all women ‘get their old self back’ after giving birth but apparently there are other postpartum conditions that affect women who have given birth.

Janet Mbugua suffered from Lochia – vaginal discharge after giving birth. The discharge contains blood, mucus and uterine tissue. Lochia discharge typically continues for 4 to 6 weeks after childbirth, which is known as the postpartum period. [sic]

The brave Janet Mbugua opened up about the condition on social media, she revealed that she had vaginal discharged while she was at the salon. The condition forced her to use maternity pads.

“MaternityPads; no one really tells you how much you’ll need them post-birth. I learned the hard way! Ever heard of #Lochia? I experienced it in a salon. MaternityPads available in most supermarket outlets, helped me so much during this period! Some people even use adult diapers ??because it’s so intense! Yikes!” Janet Mbugua wrote.

Eddie Ndichu goes gaga over his wife Janet Mbugua after President Uhuru signs much awaited Bill into law

Janet Mbugua’s efforts have finally yielded fruits after three years, President Uhuru Kenyatta has given his assent to the Bill she was dying to see become law.

Janet Mbugua through his initiative Inua Dada has traversed the country distributing free sanitary pads to girls so that they could not miss school when they are in that time of the month. Janet’s vision was to see all girls in Kenya attend school without any disruption brought about by their menses.

The former Citizen TV anchor advocated for the government to provide free sanitary pads to girls who couldn’t access them.

And on Wednesday President Uhuru Kenyatta signed the Basic Education Amendment Act into law, meaning all school-going girls will receive free sanitary pads from the government.

The Act was earlier amended by parliament to make it mandatory for the government to supply schoolgirls with the towels.

The law places the responsibility of providing free, sufficient and quality sanitary towels on the government in order to reduce the number of girls missing school during their menstrual cycle.

Janet Mbugua’s husband Eddie Ndichu was quick to pat his wife on the back after the president gave his assent to the Bill.

“After 3 years of advocacy and lobbying I am only too proud of @officialjanetmbugua @inuadada now onto execution…” Wrote Eddy Ndichu.

Lying low, fear and regret… Janet Mbugua recounts living like a kangaroo in South Africa after her work permit expired

Janet Mbugua experienced firsthand the horror of living in a foreign country when she relocated to South Africa after securing a job with eNews Africa in 2009.

Janet quit her job at KTN to join eTV in Johannesburg as a news anchor. The process of applying for work permit in South Africa made her to be frustrated and disappointed.

The process dragged and even the input of her employer to try assist her get the permit turned futile. She almost gave up but eventually she was given one year work permit.

“Some insight into how the process of acquiring my work permit was supposed to go: The company that was hiring me in South Africa, eNews Africa under eTV, was to send me an offer letter to sign. They did. It’s the document before the contract, which I could only be given once I had the work permit in my hand. The company was also supposed to send the High Commission a letter of motivation to ascertain that they indeed wanted to hire me. They did. The High Commission officials in Nairobi were then supposed to process my papers, send them to Home Affairs in Johannesburg and I was meant to receive my permit shortly after. Two weeks tops, I was told. Easy enough, yes? Er, no. eTV tried everything, they couldn’t understand why nothing was moving and they needed me on that end asap! I was beginning to think I wouldn’t see an end in sight to this issue,” Janet Mbugua wrote in part.

Janet’s life as an alien in South Africa was full of frustrations – especially when her one year permit expired. She was forced to live like a kangaroo hopping from one office to another in a bid to renew the permit.

The situation was so bad that Janet withdrew from people and even avoided conducting banking transactions or anything that required her passport so that South African immigration couldn’t detect the discrepancy with her permit.

“It was during those dark moments that I began to second guess my decision to move countries. The job was great though; I got on really well with my bosses and colleagues, plus I’d found a haven in my one bedroom apartment which was in a great neighborhood not too far from work. Everything else was great except the status of my permit. I would withdraw from people and couldn’t do much because if I attempted to make any banking transactions or anything that required my passport, the system would pick that there was a discrepancy with my permit. I wallowed, I was upset, I was homesick,”

Even after she managed to secure a five year work permit, Janet still didn’t have peace. She eventually decided to quit her job and return to Kenya.

Janet reached out to Royal Media’s Chief Operating Officer Farida Karoney who gave her a job on Citizen TV in 2011.

“Something inside me had shifted; I was tired, disappointed, embarrassed, frustrated…I was jaded. It all just seemed too little too late. Shortly after, I handed in my resignation. I was longing to return home, where I would never need to chase permits. Where I would belong and build myself. My bosses were understanding about it all.

“While I knew I would miss some of the amazing people I’d met while at work in SA, I needed to do this for me. The 2013 Kenya elections were on my mind and I figured it was best to make a move early, and it was a smart move because shortly after returning home in July of 2011, I would seek out Farida again and ask to join Royal Media Services. In hindsight, I had learned myself more, become a more resilient individual and made a mark as the first Kenyan Anchor on e News Africa. I was beginning to appreciate the dark moments, albeit over time.

“In November that year, I debuted on the Citizen Live at 9 alongside Hussein Mohammed, and there began another chapter in my life…”

Janet Mbugua opens up about her journey in Television and the major role former TV queen Ester Arunga played in it

Ever wondered how Janet Mbugua ended up being the hottest thing in Kenyan Television? Well, sit tight as I narrate it to you.

The year was 2007 and she was 23 at the time when Farida Karoney then working at KTN called her and informed her that she was going to make her first debut on television as a news anchor reading the late night news. Farida had just approved her screen tests and was satisfied she was ready for her big break.

Janet Mbugua on the other hand wasn’t…she wanted to continue living her life the way it was reading Pulse Magazine, watching MTV and having loads of fun. Updating Kenyans on pressing current affairs was not something she was particularly up beat about.

She however adjusted her sails as she calls them and went for it and 2 weeks later she had already gotten a hold of everything. This propelled her to cover the 2007 elections up until the peace accord which was signed in 2008 ripping the benefits of her good work by settling in as the main host for the Sunrise Live segment.

Here she would hone her skills and attract the attention of the big boys in TV. It was Ester Arunga who came bearing the good news that someone had asked them to apply for jobs at South Africa’s based E News Africa. They didn’t at the time as they were scheduled to join the 9PM news which was basically every news broadcaster’s dream.

Janet mbugua would however apply the job two months later and before she knew it she was a broadcast journalist in a new country with responsibilities and friends.

It was that opportunity that would set her up to be the best in her field and eventually lead to her coming back to Kenya as a valuable asset to Citizen TV.

Janet took to her blog to talk about her departure from Citizen TV, she says the right moment had come for her to finally leave Royal Media Services.

“I happen to be a believer in doing what feels right when the moment feels right, as long as I’ve thoroughly thought it through, prayed, meditated and know that I can sleep with a sense of conviction in my soul. Janet didn’t reveal what exactly made her quit the lucrative job – she however admitted that she was scared stepping out of the ‘comfort zone’ even though she doesn’t regret her move.

“I’m not going into specifics about what my next steps are, that’s not my style. What I can say for now is that I am in a space of renewal and rebirth, without wanting to sound too perceptible. It’s as metaphorical as it is literal.

“Sometimes life forces you to reboot, whether you want to or not. Am I scared? Sure. A little. Anxious? Yes. Excited? Very! Broadcast has not just been my bread and butter, but the Ying to my Yang as far as career goes. My go to. My comfort zone. Stepping out of all that familiarity, albeit momentarily, can shake ones equilibrium a little…but that’s not unusual. But, I’m a closet Life-ist who’s ready to own that. Life is too short. Better to live it absolutely!”

Janet Mbugua finally bids Citizen TV goodbye

Janet Mbugua has officially bid her TV fans goodbye. She did this last night as she announced that she was no longer going to be part of Royal media services, 6 years after being a loyal and hardworking employee at the TV station.

Her announcement comes weeks after rumour had it that she was planning to call it quits due to some issues. However judging from what she said last night, I have every reason to believe that she left in good terms mainly because Royal media services was more of a family to her.
