King Kaka enlists Maima in latest release ‘Mbesa’ (Video)

Celebrated Kenyan rapper Kennedy Ombima, popularly known as King Kaka, has released a new jam dubbed Mbesa with Kamba Benga singer Alphonse Kioko, alias Kithungo Raha Maima.

This jam, which is off King Kaka’s Eastlando Royalty album, is about how money runs the world and how people are willing to go to extreme lengths to have more of it and how it’s elusive.

Maima

The first time you hear Mbesa you will wonder what was going through the minds of Maima and the Wajinga Nyinyi hitmaker as they were recording this song but after hearing it thrice, you’ll acknowledge that it’s a masterpiece.

This track was a result of King Kaka’s brilliant mind. It’s those collaborations that you do not see coming because you think it might be whack but when you finally hear it, you are really impressed.

He has done what most Kenyan artists would be caught dead doing and I think it’s very commendable. The best part is the fact that you don’t understand Maima’s verses, which are in Kamba, can’t stop you from enjoying this song.

Mbesa begins with Maima singing in his native language with a Benga beat playing in the background, the beat then switches up when it’s King Kaka turn and he flows like he means business.

King Kaka

If you ask me, this track is the biggest collabo of 2020. I know there might be some future releases that you probably be better than this one but it will go down in history.

I really love the instrumentation on Mbesa. It’s quite impeccable. I was only surprised that it was produced by Magix Enga. I mean, who would have thought? He is without a doubt the most versatile Kenyan producer ever.

I love also the video for this jam, especially its simplicity. Although it’s kind of modern, the director tried to maintain the theme synonymous with Kamba Benga. Props to him.

Watch Mbesa below and tell us what you think.

Artist Spotlight: Xeniah Manasseh, a Kenyan songstress who is ready for the world stage

I’m so ashamed to say this but the first time I knew Xenia Manasseh or heard her sing was when she was featured by King Kaka in a song titled Dear Stranger which was released in November 2019.

Also read: Why it’s tough being a female musician in Kenya

I know what you are thinking, have I been living under a rock? Absolutely not. It is just that I stumbled on her music by chance and as you know you come across the best things in life when you are not looking for them.

Xeniah Manasseh

Naturally, after hearing how beautiful she sounded on Dear Stranger, I went to look for other songs by her and I was swept off my feet. This lass is not only beautiful but she also has a voice that matches her good looks.

Believe you me, I would listen to Xenia all day and night and repeat her music the next day and the day after that. It’s the kind of music that makes you feel alive and forget about your troubles.

The graduate of Berklee College of music sings from the heart and it is effortless that means if you are a lover of good music, like yours truly, then you will connect with her instantly.

Xeniah Manasseh

I’ve heard a chance to listens to some of her songs including; Don’t Go, When It’s Over, Niambie, See Me and I loved all of them.

A little bird recently told me that she dropped an EP dubbed Fallin Apart and you bet that I am going to look for it so that I can sample the songs that are on it.

If I was you, I would look for her songs too because from where I sit, this lass is destined for greatness. Watch out for Xeniah Manasseh ladies and gentlemen because no one sings Afrosoul like she does.

King Kaka teams up with Kelechi Africana on ‘Kesi’ and it’s so dope (Video)

Talented Kenyan musician Kennedy Ombima, popularly known as King Kaka, has released a new track with Kelechi Africana and it’s getting a lot of love from their fans.

Also read: King Kaka is releasing so many songs but nobody cares

The jam dubbed Kesi – which is a Swahili word that means case – has been ruling the airwaves since it came out a few days ago an to be honest, we also love it.

King Kaka
King Kaka

Kesi is the fifth single off King Kaka’s upcoming mixtape titled The Servant & The King and it talks about conflicts in relationships. In many instances, they arise when either the man or woman develop an interest in someone else.

I totally love this jam. If you ask me, it has all the elements of being a hit. It is those kind of songs that you will retain in your playlist for many weeks or even months.

King Kaka’s delivery on this song is impeccable. Apart from having a good flow, I’m sure you’ll agree with me that his ability to play around with words is unmatched. You just want too keep listening to him as he rhymes.

Kelechi Africana

Notably, Kelechi Africana also did a good job on Kesi. Maybe, just maybe he is the reason why this song slaps so hard because he did justice to the chorus with his melodious voice.

I totally love the mellow beat. It blends well with the voices and tempo of King Kaka and Kelechi so much so that you can listen to this song on replay for a whole day and not get bored with it. Good work Ihaji.

The video concept for this jam is dope. Other than the shoot location, I also loved the set up, styling and of course the flawless scene transitioning.

Watch Kesi below and tell us what you think.

King Kaka proved to Kenyans that artists have a much bigger role to play

One of the many things that Kenyans learnt from King Kaka’s song titled Wajinga Nyinyi, which was released about a fortnight ago, is that artists have a huge role to play when it comes to social activism.

Also read: King Kaka sparks huge nationwide debate with latest release ‘Wajinga Nyinyi’ (Video)

The truth is that we listen to music primarily for entertainment but who said that we can’t learn learn a thing or two while at it or that it can’t be used to advocate for certain worthy causes?

I remember the debate that ensued after King Kaka released the song. He got the whole country talking for almost a week but it’s not that he had told us things that we were not aware of.

King Kaka
King Kaka

Actually, the truth is far from that. We always known that vices such as; corruption, tribalism, nepotism, favoritism and what have you exist in our society but most artists think that talking about these things is a waste of time.

They shy away from those kind of songs and prefer to release club bangers because that is what they assume we want to listen to and to be honest that is not always the case. They could also be afraid to speak up.

It is  about time our local musicians realized that they have a much bigger role to play rather than just making songs that they think will entertain us.

King Kaka
King Kaka

The truth is that they have loyalists in the form of fans just like politicians have supporters and that means that if an artist addresses a crucial matter a certain group of people will listen to him or her and perhaps take action.

Just like you, I loved what King Kaka did on Wajinga Nyinyi – which has so far garnered 2.4 Million views and if I’m being totally honest I’d love to see more songs like that as we near the 2022 elections.

A man of his word! Rapper Khaligraph shows up at King Kaka´s concert as his security

Promises are meant to be kept and you earn respect from staying true to it.

Hard-hitting Kenyan rapper, Khaligraph promised an embattled King Kaka, a 24hr security system and he sure meant every word.

25th of December, Rabbit staged a performance, donning a yellow hood with words encrypted ¨Wajinga Nyinyi¨.

Not far from the podium, we could spot the ¨Me Siogopi¨ rapper with a serious face on and eyes keen to the surrounding.

Khaligraph Jones turns up at King Kaka´s concert

The spoken word artist took to his Instagram to express his deep gratitude to Khaligraph for turning up and staying true to his word.

His post reads:

King Kaka responds after Pastor Ng’ang’a claims he is dating the rappers mother

After coming across King Kaka’s new hit song Wajinga nyinyi; controversial pastor has decided to hit back saying that he was dating the rappers mother!

Although many find the video hilarious, there are those who have come out to bash the pastor for behaving like a small child; not forgetting to remind him that his ministry is not legit despite having a following.

In the video making rounds on social media, the pastor is hard calling out the rapper for mentioning him in the song and since nothing positive was said about his ministry; Pastor Ng’ang’a decided to involve King Kaka’s mother in his come back where he publicly said ‘your mother is my girlfriend.

King Kaka responds

In a new post seen by Ghafla, King Kaka goes on to tell the pastor that he had received the message loud and clear – but also used the video of an example to prove that the message in his new song is true just incase there were people still in doubt. He wrote;

Kim Kaka sahii Kan Kaka. Anyway The Message is Home. Congregation Ya Pastor Ng’ang’a is the True definition of Kenyans. Mnatukanwa, Mnaibiwa, Mnaambiwa uwongo na bado mmetulia kuskiza na mnapiga makofi zaidi. #WajingaNyinyi

Pastor Ng’ang’a to King Kaka: “Your mother is my girlfriend!”

Seems like Pastor Ng’ang’a finally came across King Kaka’s latest hit dubbed Wajinga nyinyi that speaks massive about our leaders who have been robbing Kenyans blindly!

In the song rapper King Kaka not only mentions several leaders but also pastor Ng’ang’a who has a tendency of exaggerating what he preaches to his church members.

Pastor Ng’ang’a

Well, according to King Kaka he prefers pastor Ng’ang’a since he is an honest liar and those that believe what he says have done it out of their own will.

Pastor Ng’ang’a responds

Thanks to a new video making rounds on social media, we finally get a chance to see pastor Ng’ang’a hit back at King Kaka for what he said about him.

The renowned pastor has gone ahead to haul insults at the rapper telling him that his mother (King Kaka’s) is his girlfriend….something that has pissed off a number of Kenyans who think that the pastor took things abit too far.

Anyway, below is the video making rounds on social media.

“King Kaka should be arrested!” Says Huddah

Just a few hours after the DCI denied having called King Kaka to report to their offices; word making rounds on social media is that King Kaka’s creative team might gone a-bit too far – in the name of getting enough publicity for the Wajinga ni nyinyi hit song

Well according to one Huddah, King Kaka should be arrested for claiming he was attacked and his car shot at 11 times by assassins who had been sent to finish him.

Huddah says that the singer should have already been able to provide evidence showing his damaged car – and also allowing the police to investigate before pointing fingers.

Through her Instagram page Huddah wrote;

Huddah

Fans disappointed?

Apart from Huddah, seems like everyone else out here is busy supporting King Kaka for the bold move.

Huddah

Wajinga nyinyi has left kenyans appreciating the fact that someone finally faced the corrupt system in the country without any fear – and for the first time Kenyans understand the meaning of choosing wise leaders.

Anyway, the DCI continues to deny having summoned the singer and you can check out their post below.

King Kaka sparks huge nationwide debate with latest release ‘Wajinga Nyinyi’ (Video)

Award-winning Kenyan rapper Kennedy Ombima, popularly known as King Kaka, has been the talk of the town over the last few days after releasing a rather controversial song.

Also read: King Kaka is releasing so many songs but nobody cares

The jam titled Wajinga Nyinyi, which loosely translates to you fools, calls on Kenyans to rise up against vices such as corruption, tribalism, nepotism, favoritism and what have you.

In the song, which has so far crossed the 1 million views mark on YouTube, King Kaka tells Kenyans to avoid divisive politics and picking candidates not on the basis of merit but because they belong to the same tribe.

King Kaka
King Kaka

He also mentions various leaders who have been charged with corruption such as; Kirinyaga Governor Ann Waiguru, Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu.

King Kaka further lambastes Kenyans, including clerics, for showering corrupt leaders with praise rather than telling them the truth. He compares the behavior to that of a fool saying:

“Si basi wakam kwa church watoe pesa tulitoa kama tax, na pastor ana-kiss ass ampatie hadi asome ka-verse, na sisi tuko busy wajinga nyinyi tunaclap.”

He goes on to explain the dire situation that Kenyans have to put up with such as unemployment, stalled government projects, being jailed for petty offences, inflation, high taxation, crime, bribery etc.

The Niko Kwa Jam Nakam hit maker claims that he’s not afraid of dying if that’s what it will take for us to realize the mess that we are in saying, “Wakinisnipe tonight si mnajua ni kwa nini, ntakufia watu siogopi mimi.”

King Kaka

The song, which is in the form of spoken words, has elicited mixed reactions since it was released and to be honest, I really love it because it has served as a wake up call to most of us who were too comfortable.

The violin that is playing in the background as King Kaka flows brings a sombre mood and helps you put things into perspective so does the video which was directed by a chap known as CJ.

Generally speaking, this jam which is the fourth single from King Kaka’s upcoming mixtape titled The Servant & The King is a masterpiece which might just start a revolution, if it has not already done that.

Watch Wajinga Nyinyi below and tell us what you think.

King Kaka summoned by the DCI a few days after dropping ‘Wajinga nyinyi”

Rapper King Kaka has just announced that he has been summoned by the CID and is headed to their offices just a few minutes ago.

King Kaka

This comes shortly after he dropped his hit song Wahinga nyinyi that speaks about some of the hardships Kenyans are facing courtesy of corrupt leaders who continue to run the state!

So far we understand that he was recently attacked by unknown men who made an attempt to take his life after  11 bullets were fired to his car.

The rapper however continues to stand by his lyrics and will not be backing down despite a few leaders trying to scare him to pull down the song!

Kenyans stand with King Kaka

Kenyans on social media have however gone ahead to show their support for King Kaka and continue to share the across all social media platforms.

From the stories making rounds on most tabloids, I guess finally Kenyans are finally tired of keeping quite and will now fight for what is right!

King Kaka’s new collabo with Xenia Manasseh titled ‘Dear Stranger’ is totally dope (Video)

Celebrated Kenyan rapper Kennedy Ombima, popularly known as King Kaka, has released a new song with Xenia Manasseh and it’s totally worth your time.

Also read: King Kaka is releasing so many songs but nobody cares

The song dubbed Dear Stranger, which is off his mixtape titled The Servant & The King, is about people that he was really close with at one point in time but they had to part ways for one reason or the other. Hence, they became strangers, sort of.

Arrow Bwoy
Arrow Bwoy

In the song, the Run Ting hitmaker mentions the likes of; Femi One, Arrow Bwoy, Avril, Rich Mavoko, Timmy Tdat, Pascal Tokodi, Phy and goes on to reveal how they influenced his life and vice versa.

His message to these people – who he helped rise in the local music industry – is that he’ll always be there for them and will help them realize their dreams, even if they disagreed at some point.

I love this jam. Apart from the fact that it’s well-arranged, it made realized that King King has sacrificed so much for many artists, were it not for him you would have probably never heard about some of the aforementioned musicians.

I don’t know about you but this song too me back to the Kaka Sungura that I used to listen to 10 years (or so ago) and the truth is that I had missed this version of him.

Xenia Manasseh
Xenia Manasseh

Notably, Xenia Manasseh also came through on this jam. She spiced it up with her mellow voice and believe you me, even if you don’t like King Kaka, the former will make you love this song.

I also love the instrumentation on this song. The tempo just blends well with both King Kaka and Xenia’s voices and it will get you hooked from the moment you hit the play button.

The video is also dope. The really utilized the location i.e. Lord Egerton Castle. Notably, the scene transitioning was also on point. Props to the videographer – CJ.

King Kaka has dropped a sizzling hot collabo with Odi Wa Murang’a titled ‘Nataka’ (Video)

Award-winning Kenyan rapper and singer Kennedy Ombima, better known as King Kaka, has released a new collabo with Odi Wa Murang’a who is one third of Rieng hitmakers Boondocks Gang and we really love it.

The song dubbed Nataka, which is a Swahili word that means I want, has been receiving massive airplay on local TV and radio stations since it was released a few days ago.

Odi Wa Murang'a
Odi Wa Murang’a

The was a time when I that it was wrong for new-age artists to collabo with their peers who have been in the game for long and I have to admit that I was wrong because this jam slaps so hard.

Who would have thought King Kaka and Odi Wa Murang’a would one day drop a collabo and that it would sound this nice? I bet no one did.

Nataka is party anthem. It talks about people who refuse to leave the club until they black out and have to be carried home.

There are many reasons why I love this song, the fist is because the lyricism by King Kaka and Odi Wa Murang’a is so dope and you just want to keep listening to it.

King Kaka
King Kaka

The second reason is beat. You see, it is not everyday that we hear a reggae beat on such a club banger and it actually sounds so nice. Props to the producer who is none other than Ilogos Music.

The video was also on point. Trey Juelz did a good job in bringing what they were singing about i.e the party scene to life.

Watch Nataka below and tell us what you think.

King Kaka has dropped a new jam titled ‘Acknowledge’ alongside Japesa and it’s too lit (Video)

Award-winning Kenyan rapper Kennedy Ombima, popularly known as King Kaka, has teamed up with Japesa on his latest release and it’s a big tune.

The song titled Acknowledge epitomizes King Kaka’s growth from the days of Jam Nakam to where he is now which is one of the most sought after artists in the region.

Japesa really came through on this song. His verse is worded in Luo and Sheng and you’ll agree with me that his flow is really dope even if you don’t understand what he’s saying.

Japesa
Japesa

After listening to this song, I searched for other songs by Japesa and realized that this chap is really talented, it’s only a matter of time before he becomes a household name.

As expected, King Kaka also nailed it. His verse was too lit and chances are you’ll have this song on repeat for the rest of the year, which is about six weeks, because of him.

The beat is also sick. It’s is very catchy and blends with with the flow of both King Kaka and Japesa. Props to the one and only Kevin Provoke.

Trey Juelz did a good job on the video for this jam. It is very crisp and if you watch it on mute you might believe that it was shot in the diaspora but then again maybe it’s just me.

“Chali yangu hajai amini hatujai nyanduana” Fan regrets tattooing King Kaka’s name on her body

So many of us have made mistakes and wrong decisions when growing up; and sometimes are forced to carry them into the future!

Well, in this case one of King Kaka’s die hard fans has come out to reveal that she got the singer’s name tattooed on her body back when she was in form 2.

King Kaka
King Kaka

According to a post shared by King Kaka himself, the lady is seen explaining how much she used to love king Kaka to a point where she a tattoo of his name — only to regret years later.

Jealous boyfriend

From the statement the fan whose name remain anonymous says that her boyfriend doesn’t believe her when she says that she has never been intimate with the singer.

The fan goes on to add that her man gets super jealous because the tattoo was put at a private area on her body.

King Kaka

Responding to the post rapper King Kaka apologized for the regret….but oh well let’s just say that there are fans who have done crazier things than getting a tattoo of their favorite celebrity!

Magix Enga has teamed up with Boondocks Gang, The Kansoul, Dufla & King Kaka and it’s too dope (Video)

Singer-cum-producer Magix Enga has released a new jam with Odi Wa Murang’a and Ex Ray from Boondocks Gang,  The Kansoul – which is made up of Mejja Madtraxx, Kid Kora – Dufla & King Kaka.

The song titled Bad Gyal has been receving massive airplay on local TV and radio stations since it was released a few days ago.

The Kansoul
The Kansoul

There are several reasons why I love this song. The first is because the beat is really crisp. It slaps really hard and you just want to keep listening to it.

Magix Enga really did a good job on the beat. You get the feeling that he didn’t come to play from the moment you hit the play button.

The second reason is that the lyricism in this jam is dope. The new-age and and old-age artists who were featured on it really came through.

If I had to pick my favourites from each side, I’ll obviously side with Madtraxx and Odi Wa Murang’a. In my opinion, their verses were really tight.

Ex Ray and Odi Wa Murang'a
Ex Ray and Odi Wa Murang’a

Wa also have to applaud Magix Enga for his dope hook. It’s really infectios, especially because of how he sounds.

However, I must say that I wasn’t really impressed by the video. Maybe you have a different line of thought but I feel it was too plain and boring nevermind the fact that they had some beautiful vixens who were shaking it.

King Kaka is back with ‘Round 3’ featuring Kenya’s baddest female rappers and it’s pure flames (Video)

Kenyan rapper Kennedy Ombima, popularly known as King Kaka, has released the third installment of his Ole Gang series featuring some of the illest female rappers in the region and it’s a big tune. No, like really!

Also read: King Kaka is releasing so many songs but nobody cares

The femcees who are part of the third sequel titled Round 3 are; Silverstone Barz, Frida Amani, Dyana Cods, She Flo and Tilly.

If you thought Round 1 and Round 2 – in which he featured Mbithi The Kamba Boy – were dope then you’ve not seen anything yet because Round 3 is pure flames ladies and gentlemen.

Silverstone Barz, Tilly and She Flo.
Silverstone Barz, Tilly and She Flo.

All the five female rappers who were featured in this jam nailed it. Believe you me, I had a difficult time deciding who my best 3 are. I know you’ll agree with me that it’s an uphill task after listening to this jam.

As expected, Silverstone Barz, who is also known as the punchline queen, came through on this jam. He flow is really dope and if you were listening to her on radio you would think it’s Cardi B or Nicki Minaj.

Frida Amani
Frida Amani

Frida Amani also did well in this jam. I don’t know about you but Swahili rap so really hard. To add to that, she threw in some English words to spice it up.

Dyana Cods didn’t come to play. She threw disses left, right and centre in this jam. From Bey T, Noti Flow, Xtatic to a ‘certain b*tch with no hair’, no one was spared. You can almost predict how this will unfold.

Admittedly, her flow is really dope plus she has some ‘bad girl attitude’ that most men, including yours truly, seem to like.

She Flo also killed it. The one thing that struck me about her verse was how she infused Kikuyu in her lyrics. If you’re not so keen, you might even miss that line.

Dyana Cods
Dyana Cods

To be honest, there’s nothing worth writing home about Tilly. I’m not saying that she is not good, maybe, just maybe we should give her more time to learn the ropes.

Should I also tell you about King Kaka’s verse? Where have you been for the last decade or so? Anyway, it’s what you would expect from him perhaps a bit better.

Watch Round 3 below and tell what you think.

King Kaka’s collabo with Roberto dubbed ‘Alright’ is finally out and we love it (Video)

The much-awaited collabo between King Kaka and Zambia’s Roberto, who’s famed for his Amarula hit, is finally out ladies and gentlemen.

Also read: King Kaka is releasing so many songs but nobody cares

The song titled Alright is an assurance that things might not look so good at the moment but in future all will be well if you trust the process.

As expected, Roberto really came through on this jam. There’s just something about the way that he sings that makes you hit the replay button again and again.

Our very own King Kaka did a commendable job too. His wordplay and rhymes were totally above par but then again I was not expecting anything less.

Roberto
Roberto

In his verse, he says “Basi jua itakuwa sasasawa, design ata we uta papagawa, don’t let go kaa na mimi walai ata stars hushikiliwa na sky and I’m fallen nibebe ka matatu ushafanya nikaweka jina yako kama tattoo ata lekebanitane King Kaka sibaniziba mwamene unizibila.”

The video was also on point. In particular, there’s is this gorgeous lass who would not escape any man’s attention, or maybe it’s just me.

The song was produced by Roberto and to be hones, I really loved the beat. It’s really catchy and chances are you will find yourself bumping to it from the moment you hit the play button.

Kristoff Vs King Kaka: Which artist really spices up collabos?

I’m sure we all love collabos, especially when your favorite artists come together on a jam. Nothing beats that. While there are countless local collabos, I doubt if there is a Kenyan act who has worked with many artists like Kristoff and King Kaka.

The latter is known to feature different artists in his songs, on the other hand, Mluhya Wa Busia often features in other people’s songs. Perhaps that’s the only big difference between the two talented musicians.

Whichever way you look at it, they’re all collabos irrespective of who featured in whose song.  As such, we want to pit these two artists against each other because we’d like to know who between them really spices up collabos.

Kristoff

Some of his most popular collabos include; Dundaing with King Kaka & Magix Enga, Rieng Remix with Boondocks Gang & Rankaddah, Tippy Toe with Femi One, Somaga with Naiboi, Biashara Remix with Khaligraph Jones and Stella Mwangi etc.

King Kaka

His most popular collabos include; Dundaing with Kristoff & Magix Enga, Kula Vako with The Kansoul, Ruka with Phy and Khaligraph Jones, Kidesign with Eddie Butita and DJ Shiti, Dandia with Kristoff and Frasha, Baadaye with Amos and Josh etc.

According to you, who is the Kenyan king of collabos between King Kaka and Kristoff? Tell us below.

Arrow Bwoy needs to be very careful

To date, I’m yet to come across a song by Arrow Bwoy that I didn’t think was a hit or that I didn’t vibe to at all. It almost as if everything he touches turns into gold. I’m sure you agree, don’t you?

The singer whose real name is Ali Yusuf this rare gift of infusing English, Swahili and Luganda lyrics and ends up with a very unique and beautiful sound. The beat justs complements his style.

Arrow Bwoy
Arrow Bwoy

Unlike what most people think, Arrow Bwoy is not a newbie. He has been in the game since 2012 when he was part of a group called QBIC. He ventured out on his on in 2015 and got his first hit Digi Digi in 2017.

Since then, his star has continued to shine so much so that he even landed collabos with Jamaican heavyweights Demarco and Cecile. This is not a small feat but I’m sure you already knew that.

Locally, he has worked with the likes of Gabu, Masauti, Otile Brown, Timmy Tdat, Nadia Mukami, Sudi Boy, King Kaka, Krg The Don, Voltage Music, Jovial just to name a few.

As you listen to all his songs, you can’t fail to appreciate his ingenuity. However, you’ll also notice that he sounds pretty much the same in all of them which to be honest, I feel like it’s something that might curtail his success.

Arrow Bwoy
Arrow Bwoy

You see, in as much as all songs are done by the same person, hence they will have the same voice, music fans expect you to vary your songs so that you don’t bore them the way Jaguar did. It’s just what it is.

In my opinion, Arrow Bwoy needs to be careful or he will lose relevance in no time. He should look for ways of varying his sound so that his fans don’t feel like they are listening to the same song over and over

I’m sure most local music fans, just like yours truly, have been looking forward to the day they will see King Kaka and The Kansoul on one jam and after many years of exercising patience I’m pleased to announce that the wait is over!

The two music powerhouses released a jam dubbed Kula Vako a few hours ago and by the look of things, it’s going to be a massive hit. Well, I could also be wrong but let’s just be optimistic for once.

Kula Vako is a Sheng word that means ‘to ignore’ or ‘to believe a lie’. Basically, you should take information as it is being provided to you. In the context of this songs it means the same thing i.e. if someone snatches your girlfriend, kula vako.

This jam is very decent, don’t get me wrong. I, however, feel like the tempo is too slow. It’s even hard to believe that people can actually dance to this song. Chances are you might fall asleep in the club while listening to it.

The wordplay by King Kaka, Madtraxx, Mejja and Kid Kora was on point. You could literally listen to them the whole day and no one would even blame you. It’s just what it is.

The Kansoul

Of course and as usual I was particularly impressed by Mejja’s lines. There’s a part he says, “cheza chini buda, kula vako buda, kale kadem kajana leo nataka kukakuta, leo usiku nataka kumfunza kamasutra…”

The song was produced by Jack Jack on The Beat and directed by Rikky Bekko of Big Dreams Entertainment.

King Kaka is releasing so many songs but nobody cares

If was asked to name a Kenyan artist who has released the most song, I’d confidently say King Kaka. Well, I could also be wrong.

My point is King Kaka has been putting a lot of effort. It’s almost as if he has a new song every month, sometimes it’s two new songs. And by song I mean a music video.

He really stands out from Kenyan artists who wait for two or three months to release new music.

However, in as much as he is releasing so many songs, including collabos with international artists, very few of them are hits and this begs the question, why?

King Kaka

You see, the Kenyan music culture is terrible and it’s partly to blame. We want to hear one song over and over at the expense of other songs.

This is the reason why most Kenyan artists don’t release albums. Our TV and radio stations usually pick a few songs and have them on heavy rotation for a couple of month until their audiences are fed up.

While they are focusing on one song, other songs by the same artist or different artists don’t get a chance. Put simply, they are starved.

Take for instance Dundaing which was released by King Kaka in October last year. It went on to become one of the biggest songs in 2019.

Interestingly, he has released more than 10 new music videos after the mega hit but no one seems to care. The dismal YouTube views confirms this.

Why? It’s because media houses had Dundaing on heavy rotation or a hit by another artist. It’s just what it is.

Music fans are also to blame because we don’t entirely rely on TV and radio stations because of YouTube and other music platforms.

Additionally

Cannes Film Festival was definitely the major show stopper, stepping out in a designer tuxedo and gracing the red carpet with likes of Bill Murray, Adam Driver, Chloe Sevigny, Tilda Swinton and Selena Gomez.

Speaking concerning the trip to France, Rabbit shares:

France is one of the most beautiful countries in the world.

I got to experience the culture first hand and I have to point out that the service industry is top notch and the warmth of the people made me feel right at home.

It felt good making history at the Cannes while I got to represent my country by doing what many thought was impossible.

Meeting Selena Gomez was cool too, she is a friendly and warm lady.

All in all I had a great week!

Well, this might have been a silencer to the haters but the recent global move with Selena Gomez and Michael Bonnamy is definitely the kiboko yao.

Boss moves

He has graced the music scene with legends the likes of Tracy Morgan in his ´Eastlando Royalty´ album.

Well, Lanes right there!

Most Kenyan musicians don’t know their worth and it’s sad

Despite being super-talented and all, you’ll be shocked to learn that most Kenyan musicians don’t really understand their worth. This is a sad fact of life!

So, here’s the scenario, you are are dead broke despite being an accomplished musician. You’ve dropped three new singles since the year began.

To add to that  you have thousands of followers on your own social media pages, meaning you can easily pull crowds to a gig.

Naiboi
Naiboi

Someone, say a fraudulent promoter, approaches and asks you to perform at an out of town gig for Ksh. 10,000 and you agree because you need to sort out some bills and what not.

Who’s the fool here? Is it the promoter or the musician. It’s definitely the latter and I’ll explain why.

You see, Kenyan musicians should be aware of their worth and stop undervaluing themselves. When they accept paltry amounts for out of town gigs, they are unknowingly setting a bad precedence.

Event organizers are always in constant communication. If word goes around that you charge a certain amount for a performance, your rate card is set.

Nyashinski

The next time an event organizer calls the musician up, they will probably offer them the same amount or much less.

At the end of the day, a musician will be bitter for getting bad rates yet they are being offered such meagre amounts because of the precedence that they set. It’s your fault bro!

Musicians should know that it’s okay to turn down amounts they are not comfortable with and that their personal needs or debts should not come before their crafts.

If a musician  needs a manager to help them evaluate how much they are worth, they should go ahead and get one. It’s totally okay!

This way, they’ll get paid what they are worth.  The musician, will also be able to do more things. Instead of performing at many small gigs and being underpaid, just have one or two and get your worth.

Some of the musicians who have been smiling all the way to the bank because they understand their worth are the likes of Naiboi, Khaligraph, Sauti Sol, Otile Brown, Nameless, Avril, Fena Gitu, King Kaka, Octopizzo, Nyashinski, just to name a few.

Avril

If you’ve been wondering how come they always have a new song every now and then it’s because they are getting paid what they are worth.
