Here is why Kenyan music cannot sell internationally

When we talk of music, we forget to state that this is art. It is something that people need to keep being entertained. I am sure we are all lovers of music which genre it is. Today the industry is filled with a lot of artists both old age and new age artists.

There is something that we fail to  note with our artistes be it from whichever age. I remember someone debate about playing Kenyan music. You’ll argue with me on this but we have to state facts. No one will force me to listen to content that I do not like. You realize that most radio hosts said give them something that is of content and they will play it.

By now we should realize that only a few of our artists have made it internationally and onto the East Africa Market. It is funny that some of the local artists work is only played on their local stations which is also a hustle.

Reasons Kenyan music will not sell

Most of these artists have a shallow mind. What do I mean? When composing their work they only see their surrounding. They fail to realize that the local community is probably 10% of their audience. The only look at something that pleases the few but deep inside they went to sell. Come on one needs to think wide and far.

Secondly, there is no content. Yes there is no content. I know you’ll throw stones on this. Like how do you expect the likes of Lamba lolo, Pekejeng, Wamlambez, Figa to sell internationally? It is a good that they want to fit in a certain environment but what about the long-term goal?

Even if the likes of Ethic, Sailors, Zzero Sufuri are selling now, the question is for how long will they survive the industry?

This is crap, these boys need to think and re-evaluate their music. It will play for sometime and then boom, it is already forgotten. We do not need this, we need something that anybody from whichever part of the world can listen to.

Also, laziness is something that is eating up our artists. They want things to come easy for them. To sell you need to invest your time and resources. I must say that most of Kenyan artists work is of low quality. How do we expect this to compete at the international level?

There some artists who have been able to climb the international ladder like Khaligraph Jones, King Kaka, Nyashinski, Nameless to mention but a few. These are people from America, no they have made it their business to do great things and market their work.

For now I’ll stop there. But again, lets embrace music that is making sense and something that can go out there. There are words that can also be won by Kenyans. Go for good producers and directors to come out with something better.

It only requires a willing heart, dedication and the urge to entertain a larger group of people.

‘Lamba lolo’ song deleted from YouTube, Ethics to be take to court

Viral songs Lamba Lolo and Switch Position from popular group Ethic have been deleted from YouTube as their manager Mwakitele Kitawi, popularly known as ‘Teleh Mani’ of HYPE Entertainment prepares for a serious legal battle with the kids.

According to the manager, the four kids who include Zilla, Seska, Rekless, Swat are very unprofessional and it’s time the two settle their differences in court because they keep breaching their contract.

“The matter is headed to the courts as we have already drafted our papers so I am not in a position to say much about it until it comes to an end. But if they perform any of those songs at any concert then it would only further complicate the issue for them,” said Teleh.

Second time

Teleh Mani said Ethic came back and apologized after crossing him the first time. They had even given him death threats after he demanded his pay after sponsoring their videos and recording sessions.

“They apologized and we took them back in. They, however, messed up again and that is why we are where we are today. I cannot say in what way that is, exactly, because like I have said it is a court matter now,” added Teleh.

Shock on artists as Lambo Lolo crew picked to curtain raise for international artist

Just when we thought it was all a joke and that it was yet another bunch of idle kids looking for some social media fame, Ethic, the latest crew in town best known for their hit jam ‘Lamba Lolo’ are slowly taking over the scene.

The kids have been in several interviews lately as they continue to push their controversial song that left some mouth agape because of the lyrics.

Ethic in studio

In an interview with Kiss FM, the crew confessed that the song has been loved by directors and producers and have even been willing to assist them redo the track and the video. They also shared that artists like Kristoff are interested to have a collabo.

Major performance

Watch them speak in the video below:

Kenyan slang Lamba Lolo goes international, makes it to popular dictionary

A naughty slang that Kenyans came up with as a joke has now gone international, thanks to everybody, including those Umoja kids that released a song about it, making sure everyone understands what it clearly means.

The popular word has now made it to the Urban dictionary. The word became a huge topic of discussion recently as Kenyans tried decoding the slang.  Artists such as Eric Omondi also jumped on the wave and released a song based on the same.

A few errors?

Urban dictionary defined it explicitly and some online users who have seen the translated meaning however said the examples given in sentence weren’t quite correct.

“That chick Knows how to Lamba Lolo (she know how to give a blow Job)
The Senator Ali-Lamba Lolo (The senator was Fucked)
What will you tell your mates, Let them wa-Lambe lolo ( the friends will mind their business)” Examples in sentences.

Here’s how they defined it:

The comments on “Lamba Lolo” song released by naughty Umoja kids will just make your day

Comedian Eric Omondi hit the studio recently and dropped LOLO, a song talking about how slay queens ‘ate’ all his money and denied him sex in the end.

The song was inspired by the then trending phrase “Lamba Lolo” and it seems, Omondi’s Lolo was just the R-rated version of Lamba lolo.

Rated PG 30

Four kids from Umojo have released the x-rated version now.

Rekles, Seska, Swat and Zilla have killed it in their version of Lamba Lolo though we are not sure Ezekiel Mutua will be too happy with the lyrics. The comments on the video are also super funny as fans tried decoding the vulgar lyrics.

Also, fans voted Swat as the best rapper in the song because of his fire-rhymes. Swat is the baby-faced guy that raps from 1.50-2.16th minute.

Here some of the comments:
