Why the Mishi Dorah allegations are troubling

Mishi Dorah has been sensationally accused of neglecting her children and that is something that has come as a shock to most seeing as how she made her children the main focus of her rant after her release from remand.

If you are unaware what I am referring to, it is the fact that she had her children taken from her when she was arrested for failing to pay a 150K bar tab she and her friends had incurred at Golden Ice Bistro.

Perhaps that was an idea that occurred to her inorder for her to gain our sympathy and who knows? Maybe she could very well be given some financial assistance. But who are Kenyans? They refused to allow Mishi Dorah to prosper so they exposed her.

According to someone familiar with the situation, she hasn’t had her children for quite some time. She is a mother of 3 but her first child was given to that child’s father to raise while the other 2 children have been wards of the state for quite a while now.

We can’t really confirm whether or not this is true but the fact that this allegation has surfced is rather troubling. That is because Mishi Dorah has been taking about herself in the motherly capacity. She was even the maternal figure on Nairobi Diaries.

“I thought the drinks were free” Mishi Dora explains how she left Ksh 152,000 bill

To think that she might just be yet another simple representation of the worst of Nairobi girls is rather scary. It would mean that she is a a living, breathing representation of the saying that Nairobi girls will even abandon their babies inorder to party unencumbered.

Mishi Dora

It’s also equally troubling that this would indicate some sociopathic or even psychopathic tendencies on her part but seeing as she doesn’t exemplify high iQ, I would not exactly call Mishi Dorah a psychopath.

Now, imagine that she isn’t exactly an exception here in Nairobi. There are so many women just like her walking about in the streets and prancing in nightclubs. Scary isn’t it?

Misi Dorah though the drinks she was given at Golden Ice Bistro were on the house which is what led to her getting into a misunderstanding with the management of the club that resulted in her getting arrested over the 150K bill.

As a result, she was remanded to prison and her life damn near completely fell apart. And then what did she do when she was finally able to pay and was released? She went out clubbing. Never mind she didn’t have access to her children who the state took on as their charges.

Mishi Dorah’s story is actually a rather interesting one because it exposes how Kenyan influencers and celebrities deal with businesses and corporates; they deal in the “barter trade”.

Actually what happened is apart from acting I host gigs so usually when you host gigs you have to a deal with the club, they pay you and they give you free alcohol on top of that. So I had a deal with golden ice but they told me that they can’t pay me, they don’t pay artists so the deal we had was for them to provide us with alcohol. I’m like I have guests so then I picked my producer she came from Nigeria, I picked her from the airport and I remember I got stranded in the car that we were supposed to use to pick the producer at the airport haikufika mapema and golden ice had already promised me two Mercedes Benz.
So I contacted them and I’m like I’m stranded at the airport and they said no we are supposed to pick you up from your venue of the event, (not from the airport) so I had to improvise and then we had an event and they eventually came with their two Mercedes Benz. And they picked us up and we went for our after party and we had fun it was actually more than what I expected or more than what I bargained for.

Kenyans often assume -and are encouraged to continue to do so- that our celebrities are doing well financially. We are led to believe that they are making money hand over fist and while this is true for about 10%, the vast majority either do not understand how to do business or are just not as lucrative a draw as they think they are and as a result, we have to keep bailing them out when sh*t hits the fans.

Most of these celebs are paid in kind for their services. And that does not pay the bills. It is a cool thing to do when you’re starting out but eventually, you will realise that the free booze isn’t worth a damn. Especially when you get stuck with a bill and can’t pay for it with the piss your free drinks turned to once you were done clubbing.

Mishi Dorah unfortunately is a 30-year-old socialite who still hadn’t woken up to the fact she was playing a game ruled over savagely by the law of diminishing returns but she is far from the last.

Mishi Dorah is back on the night scene, enjoying the best of what Nairobi’s night scene has to offer but this is actually an example of why people do not like contributing for celebrities. Hear me out.

She was recently arrested and held in remand over a bill she had incurred while she was out partying with her friends to celebrate the launch of a movie she was a part of.

And she didn’t just incur a 20K bill, oh no no! Our dear Mishi Dorah (not so dear) incurred a 150K bill from all the partying she did at Golden Ice Bistro where she bought some top-shelf drinks and ate the best foods on offer at the establishment but she hadn’t realised she couldn’t pay.

And just like most Kenyan celebrities who find themselves in sticky situations, she asked Kenyans to help her raise the money when she realised the establishment was serious about collecting their money.

And she roped in her celebrity friends to come in and ask Kenyans to contribute money to help her pay up. But there is a problem here, unlike with previous instances with other celebrities, this bill wasn’t brought about by a health scare, it was brought about by irresponsibility.

“Have mercy please I’ve just lost my dad” Mishi Dorah begs Pierra Makena to drop the lawsuit

As if that wasn’t enough, as soon as she was released, we saw Mishi Dorah in the club mocking the entire situation she had created and been a victim of. She was back in the club singing and mocking her time in remand. And while I can accept that sometimes you have to make light of some issues but when you need others to bail you out, it’s best to just play it safe and either avoid addressing the issue or when you do, give it all the seriousness it deserves.

Mishi Dorah

I actually feel bad for the next celebrity who’ll need our help with a hospital bill or whatever it may be because the most recent example of this will be Mishi Dorah and no one wants to feel like they have been taken advantage of and at the moment, we all feel like we are being taken for a ride when celebs assume they can use us to finance their folly.
