Veteran musician and architect David Mathenge, popularly known as Nameless, has shared a hilarious note he received from his 2nd born daughter Nyakio.
In the note, Nyakio expressed her frustration with her father’s slowness in getting ready for school. She wrote, “Hello! By Nyakio, Daddy let us go. I am late!!! I need to go now.”
The note was accompanied by a drawing of a sad face.
Nameless shared the note on his Instagram account, and it quickly went viral. Many people found the note to be funny, and they could relate to Nyakio’s frustration.
Some people commented that they had also received similar notes from their children. Others said that they were impressed by Nyakio’s assertiveness.
Nameless himself found the note to be amusing, and he joked that he was “under pressure” from his daughter. He also said that he was glad that Nyakio loved school.
The note is a reminder that even celebrities are parents, and they have to deal with the same challenges as everyone else. It is also a reminder that children can be very creative and expressive, and they often find unique ways to communicate their feelings.
Legendary musician Nameless has gushed over her lover Wahu as she celebrates being a year older. In Nameless’s message, he has referred to Wahu as his ‘best friend & life partner.
Taking to his social media, he flaunted an adorable photo of himself in tandem with Wahu-all booed up. He captioned;
”Birthday gal!!!🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾🔥🔥🔥🔥 I got your back! Commit a crime and I will get you a lawyer 🤭🤔😂😂…. On the real though, to my life partner , best friend, lover, co-parent, and biz partner , may you keep growing, glowing, and inspiring! You are a blessing to me and the girls♥️♥️♥️..Happy birthday babe, may your life’s vision and wishes come true! Today your wish is my command… Today pekee yake though.😜😜. #birthdayGal#March22#loveThisPic😊#MamaGalz”
On the flipside, Wahu showed gratitude and replied to the post;
”😄😄😄😄 thank you babe! Hapo Kwa your wish….be sure I’ll take full advantage of today! ”
The two recently welcomed their third baby in October last year. Their third born is also a daughter, something that Nameless has been denigrated for.
Nameless has been having it abit rough from fans who dont seem to understand that times have changed. You see, back in the day having daughters was something many didnt appreciate; this is because they’d assume girls are only dowry and after marriage theyd then carry their husbands name and start a family of their own.
Sons on the other hand get to carry their fathers legacy and get to grow his family…which is why they were considered a favorite. Well, surprisingly looks like these old teachings remain in a few of us, and i say this after coming across a comment left by of Nameless’ fans urging him to get a son.
Well, barely a week afyer his 3rd born daughter was born, a fan identified as Dalphine Memba wrote to Nameless telling him;
Tafuta Kijana boss…your legacy. We Africans.
Nameless’ priceless response
Okay, I really don’t know what was going on in Dalphine Memba’s head when she posted the comment; but truth is – thanks to her, those with the same behavior have learnt what happens when you let your loose fingers do the talking.
Responding to this particular fan, Nameless through his Facebook wrote back saying;
Dalphine Memba actually I really want my legacy to be a father of three beautiful gals filled with wisdom, humility and compassion. Who will live a responsible life that creates peace and joy for them and for others around them. For them, that is the vision I am working towards.
He went on to address others with similar thoughts on him and his family – and after years of maintaining his silence on this “tafuta kijana” issue…Nameless now says its time we all evolved.
Singer Nameless recently revealed he’d travelled to the US to try make more money for pampers now that his wife of 17 years is expecting another baby.
Nameless with his girls, Tumiso(older) and Nyakio
Their pregnancy announcement came at a time nobody was expecting that the two were still planning for more babies; but in a way it feels like they were maybe trying for a son – now that they’ve been blessed with 2 daughters.
Anyway with the new baby on the way, Nameless says his second born daughter has been asking for another name since she only has Nyakio, a name she was given after her grandmother. Speaking about his daughter’s request for a new name, Nameless wrote;
Nameless consoles daughter, Nyakio
Haiya. Huyu anazusha ati hakupatiwa Jina ingine apart from her traditional name “Nyakio” named after her shosho..na anaona kuna mwenzake ako on the way.
The middle child
Well, looks like Nyakio is already experiencing that emptiness’ most middle kids in the family feel; and of course she has every right to feel envious too – I mean, she’s been the last born for years and now there’s another going to take her place?
Anyway – all kids feel that way – and I’m pretty sure her sister Tumiso also felt the same way; but now that she’s 16 years….I guess she has different things to worry about.
In conclusion Nameless asked his fans to help give a good African name for his baby girl saying;
Anataka Jina ingine kabla ya incoming kumdethrone from the LastBornAssociation. Ebu tupatie ideas of African names. Mulitusaidia sana tukitafuta jina ya Tumiso.
The heated debate on the performance of Kenyan music remains unsettled; with netizens still undivided on whether it’s really dying or becoming better. Whichever the case, legendary musician Nameless has had his say on the paramount issue; which seems to be getting out of hand.
Kenyan Music On The Edge?
The musician has chopped it up with comedian Eric Omondi, who spearheaded the debate; which has roped in more & more sentiments from celebrities; especially during this festive season when they’re performing in concerts.
After an electric performance by Sauti Sol over the weekend, Nameless congratulated them and stated that their performance proved Kenyan music is still alive.
”Meanwhile … Thank you @sautisol for proving that Kenyan Music is very much alive!! Let no one cheat you that the industry is dead, it passes different stages with ups and downs and different waves, this is part of industry evolution.. we are evolving as an industry and we are all in the pioneer stage of this Urban Pop industry! That means there will be alot of challenges, mistakes and learning ,from the different generation that leads to growth and structure formations. If we are more strategic as an industry we will grow faster and sustain better👊🏾.. for now I am just happy for these guys because their work ethic has given them results over the years!! #SolGeneration#SolFest”
However, his sentiments were countered by Eric Omondi; who maintained that the industry is still ‘dead’ and that he should stop sugarcoating;
”I had a veeery long Conversation with my Big Brother @namelesskenya on the Condition of our Industry. We agreed on afew things but I STILL dont THINK Sugarcoating things and Giving excuses on behalf of the Industry will help our Case. We know Exactly what to do. The FORMULA is Simple and UNIVERSAL. WATU Waache Kulala. I do HONESTLY feel like our MUSICIANS are SIMPLY not PUTTING in ENOUGH. They are PLAIN and lack VISIBLE EFFORT… AMBIA VIJANA WAAMKE!!! Niko na ka Homa but as agreed ntakutafuta Weekend tumalize Convo.”
Nameless also found himself on the receiving end by a fan who reiterated Eric’s sentiments; and this is how he had to respond to them;
Kenyan musician Nameless is celebrating his dad’s 85th birthday today with a lot of thanksgiving. Nameless disclosed that both his parents contracted COVID-19 about a month ago and that they have underlying conditions, which makes them more vulnerable to the virus.
However, his parents are among the strong people who recovered from the virus. As Nameless reveals, his parents contracting the virus gave them a scare.
Celebrating his strong dad’s birthday, he wrote;
”Today is a special Day for the Mathengez Clan… My dad Turns 85 years… We have every reason to thank God because as you know my dad has been on recovery mode after two major operations last year. To add to that, about a month Ago Both My mum and Dad Got Covid 😳🤦🏾♂️..that was a scary time for the family because both my parents are vulnerable and have underlying conditions … But they both recovered fully last week with my mum having to be admitted for afew days in hospital. My dad, thank God was asymptomatic. Can I get an Amen ,🙏🏿🙏🏿… We Thank God for their Health today and every day we get to share with them!
Nameless and his family have recently been posting dance videos; showcasing their dancing skills. Well, they have a reason for doing this. He continued;
”When you see us dancing with a smile on my face just know we have alot to be thankful for during this difficult times.🙏🏿My mum told me she was Soo happy to see me and my wife sing together that it speeded her recovery #TeAmopower😊🙏🏿..so Fam help me wish Mzee a happy birthday may he continue being strong and happy and blessed! Happy birthday Daddy💯❤️. #MathengeSr”
Kenyan musician Nameless has announced the recovery of his Instagram account with over 1 Million followers. The legendary musician had his account hacked by an Iraqi, who later started posting football related content on the page.
Nameless’s wife Wahu made the announcement when the account was hacked. She asked fans to disregard any message that would be posted by the account.
”Hey, fam. Nameless Instagram Account has been hacked. We are working to resolve the issue but for now please disregard any posts coming from Nameless Kenya account”
Most Kenyans could be seen on the comment section trying to tell the hackers to return the account. Their efforts have paid off.
After recovering the account, Nameless immediately deleted the content posted by the hackers. However, his followers still stand at 1.2 Million. He couldn’t hide his joy after recovery of the account. Posting a video with his daughter on his gram, he wrote;
”GUESS WHOSE BACK ON IG!!!😊😊😊 💥💥💥💥.. we are Soo happy over here…and gratefull 🙏🏿🙏🏿 to all that assisted me get it back. Will fill you in on that later!! For now allow me to Celebrate with my first born @tumi.mathenge 😊…here you can see the two dance finalists in the Mathenge residence..this is round one.. who did it better…No favouring children here.😊.. hii ni compe roho safi😜…”
Being a parent comes with demanding responsibilities. Apart from taking care of them, you have to talk to them often about their feelings. This helps them to open up and avoid making the wrong choices on their own. At 44 years old, Nameless is a dad to two daughters; his eldest being Tumiso Mathenge.
Nameless, Wahu and their daughters-Google
At 14 years old, she’s now a teenager, who needs proper guidance on matters regarding sexuality. His father Nameless (David Mathenge) is up to the task. The generation has changed; kids are growing fast, and Nameless agrees with this. On his Instagram, he posted, \
”As a father of galz I have decided to create an environment that allows my daughters to tell me anything without fear of judgement, especially my firstborn @tumi.mathenge who is a teenager. I want her to be able to talk to me about anything , including questions on Sexuality , so that she does not get confused by the peer pressure that comes with that age.
I believe teenagers should abstain from sex for many reasons but it is important that they truly understand the reasons so that they make that choice themselves. Parents of teenagers tuko pamoja 💪🏾👊🏾.. let’s find ways to share our experiences and help each other bring up a well rounded generation…#BabaGalz 💪🏾💯 #adolemanenoz#Tujulishane #parentingz💪🏾💯”
I totally agree with Nameless. It’s time parents start talking to their teenage children about sexuality.
Kenyan celebrity couple David Mathenge aka Nameless and Wahu Kagwi this year marked 15 years in marriage. A true definition of tears and joy, ups and downs served in one plate but still came out alive.
The two continue to soldier on as they juggle growth in their professional life as well as bringing up their 2 daughters in the best way they can.
It is no lie they stand as one of the longest-standing married celebrity couples in the country.
15 years later, the two still step out looking like a young couple, trying their luck at dating. How they manage to maintain it at that, remains their long-kept secret.
The evening date
Anyway, so the two, fond of each other’s company and occasionally putting aside their parenting duties, to spend quality time together, were spotted out on a casual date.
It’s not even the lunch date but the simplicity of it. When the expectation would be high-end dinner dates in warm-lit, luxurious spaces, the Mathenges kept it simple.
The Mathenges
The two walked into a popular local fast food restaurant, took their seats and ordered a packet of chips, a piece of chicken and two sausages and that was it.
None of them even dressed to the occasion, simply covered in hoodies.
A photo shared by the legendary pop star who cautioned youths against set standards of 5-star hotels and so on, as the true definition of dates with your significant other.
“Kama ni wako ni wako. Peleka mcfrys muenjoy kuku kwota na kachili, hizi presha za shosho media zitakumaliza😜😜, kwani iko Nini…🤷🏾♂️” Nameless questioned.
Some of his fellow celebrities however, believed he had booked the entire place for themselves, probably why no one else was in the room. Especially for a restaurant that is normally packed.
Others commenting that even though it was a local restaurant, high chances are they went to the ones around Nairobi’s posh suburbs and not just any other.
A section explaining that having been in marriage for 15 years, nothing like posh restaurants would pull them apart anyway.
Nameless and Wahu dinner date
Either way, the remarkable couple was praised for their simplicity and authenticity, living life by their own rules.
Further admitting Tumiso will make a good wife, just like her mom, Wahu.
“We are watching and praying for her,” he wrapped up.
Ringtone Apoko spotted drooling over Tumiso
A post that left a bitter taste among his followers, questioning his sanity.
Ringtone forewarned?
He however later edited his caption. Probably after receiving a warning from the music power couple, who felt Ringtone had crossed his boundaries.
Nameless with teen daughter, Tumiso Mathenge looking sharp
Not so long ago, did Wahu Kagwi open up on being sexually molested aged 9. By her male cousin who waited for her mom to go to the shamba and soon after abused the singer.
Wahu came out to caution parents of young children and teenagers to keep especially, their girls under close watch and never to trust relatives with their daughters.
Clearly, Ringtone’s post did not sit well with Wahu who knows how it feels to have her girls intruded into.
Wahu Kagwi has come out to reveal she was sexually abused at the tender age of 9 by a male cousin, whom her mom had entrusted her to.
In a tear-jerking post online, the mother of two narrated how her mom that day, had gone to tend the shamba, and left her in the care of her roughly 19-year old cousin, only for things to go wrong.
So soon as her mom had left, the male adult started touching a 9-year old Wahu very inappropriately that left her irritated by his actions but could not defend herself then.
After he was done, the guy had the audacity to just say sorry to a young Wahu Kagwi before asking her; “Si you also touch me the same way.”
Remember, Wahu was 9 years old and for her male cousin to ask her to just do what he had just done on her, was going to be an offence by Law. But either way, he still asked.
“It still hurts, it still upsets me when I think about it. My mum trusted her nephew to take care of her child, she had just gone to pick sukumawiki and she of course did not imagine her nephew could do something like that,” explained Wahu.
Singer, Wahu Kagwi, commemorates late dad
With eyes soaked in tears, the gospel singer who had never talked about the incident, clarified, she decided to open up, not that it was easy, but just to urge parents never to trust anyone to take care of their children. Never!
“We have to be so careful who we let into the space of our homes. And being a mother of girls, I can’t just let any guy into my house or just entrust them with anybody.”
Gospel singer Wahu Kagwi must be one of the few employers who allow a bit of play at work after a video of her and her staff dancing to the viral Jerusalema challenge surfaced online.
It was a normal day at work, Covid-19 screening done at the front door, sanitizers on and masks to boot, staff got their gears ready, tending to customers before they all hit the dance floor.
With blow-driers in hand and other equipment, clippers, combs name it! others still in their work aprons, to each their own style, masks on, sport wear in place, the energy was just to much.
From the spa, to the barber area, to the salon, the place was turned into a dance floor in a matter of seconds. Wahu Kagwi leading the crew in letting off the steam.
Her business
The singer, mother of two and wife to legendary pop artist, Nameless, has been running her salon business dubbed Afro Siri since 2013 and for her, the place is like home and her employees are like family.
She deals with manicure, pedicure and even spa treatment of cos inclusive of the salon and barber areas. Affirming “you can trust us in spite of our craziness 😄😄😄.”
Fans took to the comments section to gush over the energy, love and beauty Wahu savored with her employees, terming it “awesome team spirit.”
As Nameless and Wahu marked their 15th wedding anniversary, his dad was spending nights on a hospital bed set to undergo head surgery after suffering blood clots in his head.
Opening up on the unfortunate incident, the celebrated artist revealed his dad was battling a condition Subdural Hematoma that causes collection of blood in an inner layer of the head, which caused him minor strokes.
Even as the Mathenge’s lit a candle to celebrate the couple’s milestones in their love life, the artist admitted it was nerve racking for them. Having too see their dad undergo such a sensitive surgery in his old age, was not easy for the family.
The Mathenge couple
Surgery turns out successful
Fortunately, after 10 days in hospital, Mathenge Sr., successfully underwent the head surgery in the hands of neuro-surgeon Dr D. Olunya and his team. The same doctor who treated Nameless 3 years ago for a threatening brain condition.
“Today I give thanks to God because he got discharged and the doctor was happy with his recovery process. Now its just some home nursing care and mzee will be good . He is strong for 84 year, delicate but strong💪🏾💪🏾,” penned Nameless on his Instagram page.
The singer further disclosed that the hospital bill had ballooned into a crazy sum but fortunately enough, NHIF had come through for him and his loved ones to cater for part of the bill and he can never be more grateful for that.
Also the bill had gotten kidogo crazy but thank God NHIF came through as well to help us with part of the bill. Especially at a time like the Corona season🤦🏾♂️when things are tough ..all in all just want to give thanks🙏🏿🙏🏿 .Today I celebrate life🙏🏿 and second chances!! That’s why I was dancing like a mad man Jana😅😜
Kenyan power couple Nameless and Wahu Kagwi started their love story back in college and 22 years later, they celebrate a 15-year old marriage glued together by enduring love.
Taking to their Insta pages, the pair adored each other with kind, heartfelt words full of promises and gratitude that they never gave up even when it was darkest.
Celebrity couple, Wahu and Nameless throwback
For Wahu, the date remains forever ingrained in her mind, September 10, 2005, she puddled on a boat, across a lake, to say “I Do” to the love of her life, father to her children and her campus sweetheart.
The journey was never easy, fights and makeups, wins and losses but still, 15 years later and counting, Nameless born David Mathenge remains “The One”.
“Happy 15th anniversary to us!!! Here’s to forever! 🥂🥂. I’m excited about the future ! I love you always @namelesskenya & May God continue to bless our family” Wahu beautifully penned off.
As for her beloved, he mischievously won her heart 22 years ago, been through so much together over the years but the journey continues because she is still “The One”.
“Happy anniversary babe! Cheers to us, cheers to our journey, cheers to the ups the downs , joys and sorrows, the wins and losses, yooo!! we definately grown 🤔😊! The journey continues💪🏾!! and I still got your back💯,” Nameless laid bare his promises to his Queen.
The adorable and intelligent Mathenge couple, blessed with two now all-grown daughters marked the big date in a stunning, royal photoshoot that has since brought the internet to a standstill. Have a look:

Happy 15th to the lovebirds!
simple_pleasures0 Wow! 15years! This is definitely couple goals 👏👏👏👏
It’s hard to talk about Kenyan music without mentioning the name of Decimal Records CEO Eric Musyoka, popularly known as Musyox. He has been very instrumental in shaping the Kenyan sound.
In the early to mid 2000s when Calif Records and Ogopa Deejays were beefing, the award-winning producer, who is now 38, was working at Homeboyz Entertianment.
Musyoka
While at the stable which is owned by the Rabar family, Musyoka produced songs for the musicians like; Prezzo, TID, Mr Lenny, Nameless, AY, Wyre, Peter Miles, Nikki, Nonini, just to name a few.
He then took a break and went for further studies at the SAE Institute in the US in 2006. Upon his return, he formed Decimal Records and signed P-Unit.
If you ask me, I will tell you that the group that was made up Frasha, Bon Eye and Gabu is one of Musyoka’s greatest achievements to this day. He literally propelled them to greater heights.
Musyoka and Bon Eye
What most people do not know is that the three started off as Nonini’s dancers and back-up singers and by 2010 they had won several awards including a MTV Africa Music Award (MAMA). Take a moment and let that sink in.
At Decimal, Musyoka has also worked with Just A Band, Juliani, Daddy Owen, Sauti Sol, Elani, Octopizzo and many more. Put simply, there is a high chance that he has produced a jam for your favourite Kenyan artist.
When all is said and done, he will be remembered for nurturing talents and taking Kenyan music to the continental stage because he started producing music at a time when most artists were just focusing on their local audiences.
Musyoka is one of the producers who changed the game by ensuring our music could transcend our borders and this led to artists getting so many shows outside the country.
He’s a legend in his own right and it saddens me that most people will realize this after he hangs up his boots because as they say, you never miss something until it’s gone.
Watch one of his most popular jams dubbed Furahi Day by Nonini and Nameless below.
If there is an artist that I have missed on the Kenyan music scene it’s one beautiful lass known as Phyllis Ng’etich. You might know her from that Taabu song or the song that she did with Khaligraph and King Kaka dubbed Ruka.
The first time most of us heard about her was when she was a contestant on Maisha Superstar. To this very day I still remember her rendition of Nameless’ Sinzia. It was magical to say the least.
Phy
Phy is such a great vocalist and I would even dare say that she is one of the greatest female vocalists in Kenya, you might think otherwise and it’s totally okay.
When you listen to her, you just get life instantly. If you were having a bad day, her songs just cheer you up and I am not exaggerating any of this. Ask any die-hard fan of hers.
And it is partly the reason why I would love to see her back on the music scene. Other than the fact that she is such a great singer, I think she is also too young to take a backseat. I believe she is 26 or so.
Phy
Understandably, she became a mother and that is one of the challenges that comes with being a female artist but I believe her child is now all grown and she should now make a comeback.
To be honest, her fans like myself, really miss her and if she released a new song today, we would listen to it for the rest of the year. If we can, we will even make it the national anthem. No kidding.
It is really sad seeing such a talented artist just fade away. Phy, if you’re reading this then it’s about time you made a comeback on the local music scene. Enough said.
I’m not a fan of Bongo music. I only listen to Tanzanian songs when I have to, for instance when I am doing a review or when they are randomly played at a club, party or in a matatu.
On the flip side, I admire so many Tanzanian artists not for any other reason but because they really work their asses off. I could list them but their names would take up all this space. So, I’ll save you the agony.
WCB artists
Bongo music has always been big deal not only in Tanzania but across the continent and it’s bout time we – or rather our artists – borrowed a leaf from them.
They should ask themselves questions like,”What can we learn from Tanzanian musicians?”, “What areas should we work on?” and “What are they doing differently?”
One of the Bongo artists that I really admire, just like most of you is Diamond Platnumz. Despite being accomplished and all, he has never been content with his success. He keeps pushing each and every day.
Since the year begun he has released more than 30 songs, perhaps more, including collabos. As a result, he is always at the top of people’s minds.
Khaligraph Jones
It always seems like he is a pacesetter for the Tanzanian music industry since most people – including his stablemates – like Rayvanny, Lava Lava, Mbosso and Queen Darleen want to keep up with him.
The local music industry lacks a someone who keeps artists on their toes as is the case with Tanzania and this means that very few musicians, if any, give a hoot about consistency.
The truth is that people get bored very fast. I doubt if any of the people who are reading this article can have a jam in their playlists for more than a week and this means that artists need to release more music. There is no other way.
Many of you will be quick to point out that new age artists such as; Sailors Gang, Boondocks Gang, Ochunglo Family, 34 GVNG, Gwaash, etc. are constantly releasing music but let’s be honest, that is not serious music.
Nadia Mukami
In as much as we find the songs by these youngins catchy, they rarely transcend our borders. It’s what it is. To add to that, the quality is always wanting.
I’m talking about the likes of Nyashinski, Nadia Mukami, Octopizzo, Khaligraph, King Kaka, Redsan, Nameless, Jua Cali, Avril etc. Will they ever wake up from their deep slumber? If so, when? Enough said.
Kenyan rapper Boutross Munene, who is one third of the Alliance Domini (AD) Family and famed for his Wrong hit, has released a new jam an it’s a big tune.
The song dubbed Juju is a cover of a 2006 classic by Nameless an Mr. Lenny which goes by the same title and boy he totally nailed it.
Boutross Munene
Unlike the original version, Boutross’ rendition has a rap – or is it shrap – verse and believe you me, this made such a big difference. To add to that, the two songs are similar but different. You catch my drift?
Perhaps the most amazing thing about this song is listening to Boutross sing. You know, we are used to him rapping but in this jam, he singing in most parts. This chap is really talented.
The beat on this jam is also on point. If you are familiar with Lemario’s work then I am sure you know that he never disappoints. I dare even say that this beat is more catchy than the original one.
I honestly can’t wait it hear more songs from Boutross’ mix tape titled 6ixviewsii8k because from the look of things it is totally fire. Enough said.
If you are in your 20s or older then I’m sure you have nostalgia when you remember the kind of songs that rules the airwaves in the early 2000s.
Longombas
Genge music had just emerged and almost every artist was releasing a song that was inclined towards the genre.
However, others decided to steer their own paths and their songs were received well by fans nevertheless.
Put simply, it was a beautiful time for Kenyan music. It’s almost similar to the music revolution that is being witnessed in the country at the moment.
Among the male artists that were such a big deal at the time were; Pilipili, Flexx, E-Sir, Jimwat, Nonini, Klepto, Czars, Longombas, Redsan, Deux Vultures, Historians, Prezzo, Wyre, Mr. Lenny, Jua Cali and Nameless.
Prezzo
Today, we will focus on the last two names i.e Nameless and Jua Cali simply because they are big deal up to this very day, aren’t they though?
We want to find out who between the two made your childhood memorable and the song that brings back the good old memories.
Admittedly, both artists are talented. They’ve both played a crucial role in shaping the Kenyan sound.
Jua Cali
However, if you had to choose one of them, who would you settle on and why? Tell us below.
When you attend a gig, you expect to be entertained and this largely depends on the performers and what they do on stage. Truth is, anyone can get on stage but very few people can own it. (I sound like a motivational speaker at this point).
I have attended a couple of gigs over the last few years and watched some on YouTube and in my honest opinion some of the best live Kenyan performers are; The Kansoul, Jua Cali, Juliani, Nameless, Sauti Sol, Avril, Timmy Tdat, Willy Paul and Khaligraph Jones.
Today, we’ll focus on the last three names because they are individuals who are current i.e. they don’t belong to any groups and they have been in the game for almost the same period of time and they are still relevant to date.
We would like to find out who among the three you consider the best live performer and why. What makes each of them stand out and why? We want to know how they manage to pull large crowds to their events.
Willy Paul
Willy Paul
Apart from having mad energy while performing, the Tam Tam hitmaker is known to pull stunts on stage. He always does something unexpected perhaps this is why his fans can’t get enough of him.
Timmy Tdat
The Kipopo hitmaker is not only energetic, he also knows how to interact with the crowd. To add to that, he’s likely to dance seductively with a girl on stage during a gig.
Khaligraph Jones
Khaligraph Jones
The O.G as he is popularly known is good at crowd control. He’s not jumpy like the other two but if you attend his gig, you’ll definitely get value for your money. He has a unique style of entertaining his fans and in my opinion, it works for him.
According to you, who among the three is the be best live performer? Tell us!
Kenyan music is now international thanks to rapper alias Khaligraph Jones. Anyway, let’s be honest, Kenyan music crossed Africa’s borders a long time ago. All I mean is that his latest is release is a gamechanger. That’s all.
Papa Jones has been on a roll since the year began. If you are keen, you’ll notice that he has a new single, including songs in which he is featured, almost every three weeks.
Nameless recently featured him on the remix of Megarider. The song, which was released roughly three few weeks ago, has been getting massive airplay on local TV and radio stations.
Even before the dust settles, Khaligraph is back with yet another single. And no, we are not complaining. In fact, we couldn’t be any happier.
Khaligraph
Yesterday, Khaligraph dropped his latest single dubbed Superman and belive you me, it’s a work of art. Just like wine, this 28-year-old rapper keeps getting better with time.
In the song, Khaligraph talks about his musical journey and how he became one of the biggest rappers in the game because of his sheer determination.
As expected, his rap flow was on point in the song. His lyrics were mostly in English so much so that if don’t know who Papa Jones is you would mistake it for a foreign song. Okay, I’m pushing it.
My favourite line in the song is “My passion for music drove me to the studio not of the money and hype, was dedicated and committed I made the microphone my honey and wife…”
The video which was directed by Jeff Adair was also on point. As it begins, there’s a flicker which hits the ground before Khaligraph emerges from a bush. Perhaps, this is meant to reinforce the fact that he’s a superman.
The beat, which was produced by Motif, was also superb.
Your favorite Kenyan artist, Nameless is a star in the lucrative music industry that sees many tip off just shortly after they step in.
However, Music star, Nameless, has defied the odds and remains relevant to date, a whooping 20 years down the road.
Celebrated Kenyan pop artist, Nameless
Nameless takes us down memory lane of what his teenage life was like, a stage that has made him who he is today.
Both exciting, scaring but he dared it all.
That Call
I was just a campus student, young kid, I remember that day I was having a night shift job.
So me and my girlfriend, Wahu, she used to walk me half way on my way to work, , and then I´d head back to college.
Nameless and his then girlfriend, Wahu kagwi
So that day, I think I was a bit down, I was feeling really down.
Wifey, girlfriend at that time was trying to uplift my spirits but I was like, it will be alright.
Then I went to work.
When I reached jobbo, ofcos, my friend was there, we used to work just the 2 of us night shift.
Newton and me.
We started working as per kawaida and then, something interesting happened.
On the radio, at the time, Muthoni Bwika announced that the biggest producer, Tejo Signs in studio was looking for artists; rap or sing, give a call:
Yeeeah, Are you gifted? Are you talented? Can you drop a rhyme? Can you sing?
Well am waiting for you because he is looking out for talent and the person who wins, will cut a record with him aka, ´a single´ so just don´t sit around and give me a call on 24….
Nameless could not help but listen keenly.
I knew I had an interest in rapping, but I wasn´t sure that was my talent.
He thought about giving his friend, Newton a hint about his desire to give the producer a call and all, but he decided to keep it to himself.
Nameless stands up and goes to the office next door, to make that call.
To his surprise, Muthoni picks and she´s like:
Yoh, you wanna try it?
Yah, I wanna try.
Let´s go.
Popular Kenyan singer, David Mathenge, stage name, ´Nameless´
Breakthrough
So Nameless is given beats to rap to and here he goes:
Asubuhi na mapema, naamka, ninaoga, nauliza, mirror mirror on the ukuta, what do I need….?
Muthoni gave Nameless some positive vibes and went ahead:
Woh, that´s pretty cool…What´s your name?
Nameless was not sure what answer to give because he hadn´t decided on an artistic name so it became a challenge.
And bang! He picked on ´Nameless´ because chances are that his boss was listening on radio and all.
So Muthoni went with it but once they had made a decision, they would sure call back.
Nameless then heads back to office and Newton can´t just believe his friend missed a guy called ´Nameless´ rap on the radio.
And in my head I´m thinking, should I tell him it´s me?
So I ask him, what did you think about it, and stuff like that.
Next day, announcement is, ´Nameless´ actually won, he is now in the finals.
Same thing, he walks out of the room, leaves Newton in the office and goes into the next office, makes the call and returns.
So Newton is like, dude you keep missing.
Every time you go to the toilet, this guy comes on air.
Newton likes the rap and all and Nameless feels encouraged.
Good thing about it, is funny enough, guys liked the vibe and they voted me in and I won the gig with Tedd.
And…two days later, I was recording Megarider.
I can say that call I made, changed my life because at that point, on Monday, the next week, they launched my Megarider.
People loved it, it became my hit, and now I had to be Nameless.
People were anxious to know his kind of profile.
And that´s when my journey started, literally 20 years ago.
Nameless and his then girlfriend, Wahu were the key voices in the song.
Celebrated popular couple, The Mathenges
Wahu is the voice behind the ´Nameless´ music bed as Nameless takes down the rap.
Fellow secular-cum-gospel artist, Wahu Kagwi is the mother of Nameless´ 2 adorable daughters.
Tedd Josiah produced Nameless debut dingle, ´Megarider´.
Megarider was recorded and released back in 1999 as Nameless first single, which opened paths to his unexpected musical journey.
Paul Julius Nunda, alias JuaCali, is still relevant to date, almost two decades after he made his debut in the local music industry.
His fanbase continues to grow every day. Event organizers are known to include him and in their line-ups so that he can pull huge crowds.
However, many people don’t understand how he has managed to stay afloat in the competitive music business for such a long time.
Most of the people that he started off with, save for Nameless, either quit music along the way or have been struggling to make a comeback.
His success over the years has left many wondering “What’s his secret?”, “How does he do it?”, “What sets him apart?”
Well, it’s simple. First, his unique style of music and ability to use sheng lyrically sets him apart from the rest. As the pioneer of Genge, Jua Cali shaped the Kenyan sound.
Jua Cali
There have been various adaptions of Genge since 2001 when we were first introduced to the sound. However, as you know, the master can never be outshone.
Secondly, Jua Cali is a hard worker. Unlike most artists, music is his only job. He spends most of his time in studio and has more than 100 unreleased songs.
If he releases a song and it’s doing well on the charts, you’ll find him in studio hours later working on the next hit. This is not the case with most modern day musicians who prefer to go on a break when their song is topping playlists.
Lastly, the King of Genge is humble and easy to work with. If you agree to meet up at certain time, he will arrive at the meeting venue ahead of you.
He also doesn’t have the “you must know people” syndrome as is the case with most local musicians. If you meet and you don’t know him, he will introduce himself and not ask you to Google him.
These are just some of the reasons why Jua Cali is still popular to this very day. As such, you should not be shocked when he is still receiving massive airplay 10 years down the line.
Despite having been married for 13 year, Nameless and his wife Wahu still behave like new lovers.
For years now they have been known as the power couple in the entertainment industry and it seems that they won’t stop anytime soon.
Just a few hours singer Nameless shared a new photo with his wife but what caught many peoples attention is how he was holding his wife.
Well, it’s not everyday we see our celebrity couple getting romantic on social media but as for Nameless; he is not afraid to show the world he loves his wife!
Bootyful moment
From the comments most people definitely admired this beautiful moment between the couple; while others couldn’t help but crack a joke on two about the photo. Size 8 who was among the top people to comment went on to write saying;
Wahu publicly announced that she had quit secular industry to give her life to Christ sometimes in November 2017, she went on to release her first gospel song dubbed ‘Sifa’.
Nameless now reveals that his wife had been looking forward to joining the gospel industry for a very long time. He also disclosed that he was working on a project with Wahu when she decided to seek salvation.
“I was working on a project with her before she quit secular. Wahu had always been talking about joining gospel for a long time, and when her time came, I could not hinder her from doing what she has always wanted,” said Nameless during an interview with Word Is.
Full support
Nameless and Wahu
Nameless asserts that he fully supports his wife’s journey in gospel industry. He said that marriage had taught them to support each other fully.
“When she finally joined gospel, I had to let her be, because it is about how she feels, not what I feel for her. She told me this is where I am and my heart is here and I promised my support to her.
“When she finally joined gospel, I had to let her be, because it is about how she feels, not what I feel for her. She told me this is where I am and my heart is here and I promised my support to her. We’ve learnt how to support each other, and though we are a couple, we are separate human beings. If my call will be gospel in future, I will also join her because it is always about what inspires us.”
A fan commented on Nameless’ post on Instagram claiming that the singer stole the beats of his song from a Tanzanian artist called Faccie.
“Beat sio yako ioo show some appreciation kwa mwenye wimboo. The original song is called Njoo by artist Faccie from Tanzania,” a certain Peterabdalah commented.
It didn’t have exclusive license
Nameless promptly responded to Peterabdalah explaining that the beat was bought from a instrumental and that he used it because it didn’t have an exclusive license.
““@peterabdalah sema kaka. The beat was bought from a instrumental website called Beatsbysv… Since I didn’t get an exclusive license, the beat has been definitely been use by many people… Mimi siwezi iba beat buda. Blessup… #Amgood ????,” Nameless responded.
