Willy Paul Blasts Fake Gospel Industry, Credits Secular Music For Helping Him Find Himself

Kenyan musician Willy Paul, known by his stage name Pozee, is speaking out about his departure from gospel music. In a recent interview with the Mic Check podcast, Pozee doesn’t hold back, calling out what he sees as hypocrisy and inauthenticity within the gospel industry.

Pozee describes a period of depression where he reached out to his “spiritual family” for support, only to be ignored. He claims these individuals, who he believed were devoted to God’s work, were more interested in money and fame than genuine ministry.

Feeling ostracized by the gospel community and targeted by online trolls, Pozee made a decisive move: he left the gospel scene altogether.

But where did he turn? Pozee reveals that secular artists Muthoni Drummer Queen and Nyashinski encouraged him to stay true to himself. He credits this switch, and his embrace of the “bwana mkunaji” persona, with allowing him to finally become the authentic Willy Pozee we see today.
