Murdered Former Standard Journalist Emotionally Laid To Rest

A somber mood engulfed a village in Bungoma County when the body of former Standard newspaper writer and owner and editor of the Mirror Weekly, an Eldoret-based newspaper, was finally laid to rest.

John Kituyi was murdered by unknown assailants who ambushed and attacked him with blunt objects as he walked home after the day’s duties, leaving him with serious injuries which he succumbed to on arrival at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital.

The killing of Kituyo sparked massive outrage in the media fraternity in Kenya, and it was alleged that it occurred after his paper published a story on how the ICC was planning to lock in DP Ruto.

Many speculated that Kituyi’s murder was caused by his incisive analysis of politics in the larger Rift Valley voting block and that he may have locked horns with the ‘untouchables’.

However, police are still conducting invetsigations to bring the perpetrators to book.

Speaking during the sendoff ceremony, Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula condemned the killing f Kituyi in the strongest words possible and said that he believes he was murdered because of his political stories.

He called upon the protection of all journalists in the country and demanded that the assailants brought to book immediately.

Here is how it went down:
