Octopizzo,Noni Gathoni and Bob Collymore’s Wife, Wambui Wamae Showed up for This Event at Villa Rosa Kempinski Where One Piece of Art went for a Whooping Ksh 500,000

The day was 30th April, a Saturday and the grand ballroom of Villa Rosa Kempinski was awash with activity.

There were all sorts of people engaging in some sweet wine accompanied by some scrumptious chicken drum sticks courtesy of the house of course and the main topic of discussion was art and Kenyan art just to be specific.

They included the likes of Octopizzo, Wambui Kamiru, Noni Gathoni and many others who had come to witness a very important ceremony which marked a new beginning in Kenya. All this under the spell bound music of Joseph Hellon and his band.

It was an art auction brought together by Villa Rosa Kempinski and the Kuona trust which would see some portraits by some of the most talented artists in Kenya sold off to the highest bidder.

In a special project dubbed Wasanii Jukwaani, the artists had before the auction spent a week at the prestigious hotel working on the pieces of art. They were stationed at the hotel’s guest areas where they got a chance to interact with lovers of art whom they took through a step by step process of how they came up with their unique pieces.

This year’s theme was the conservation of elephants and 20% of the proceeds from the auction were donated to Wild Aid which is a key engine in the conservation of elephants.

I can comfortably say it was a successful event going by the faces of the attendees and that of the artists considering all the pieces were sold off. One went for a whooping Ksh 500,000 which indeed set the pace and created enthusiasm for the next event.
