No return for show ‘Being Bonang’

After 14 episodes to the first season of Being Bonang, reality star Bonang Matheba announced that there would be no season 2 for her reality show.

“No Season Two… But, a big THANK YOU to everyone who’s loved & watched my show… Means the world to me,” she wrote on Twitter.

In August, the Broadcast Research Council announced that the reality show had fallen short of making it to the top 30 list of most watched shows on DStv.

After the first three episodes, Being Bonang had failed to garner more than the 327,831 viewers who tuned in to watch Mzansi Magic’s Isithembiso, which occupied the 30th spot.

Bonang’s manager, Sylvester Chauke, stated that it was never in Bonang’s plans to have a second season.

“You would need to speak to the channel but the whole idea was for her to have one season of the show.”

He however disagreed with the figures and said that the ratings were completely inaccurate, saying that the decision to only have one season, was made by Bonang.

“The show has been on air for only three weeks; it’s inaccurate to compare the show to others that have been on air for longer. Being Bonang is the most-watched show on Vuzu by far.

“The show has done extremely well and there has been a phenomenal growth on the channel. The channel was extremely happy with the show but you will have to ask them for more information about the show.”

Bonang is currently focusing on her book From A to B, and taking it internationally.
