SAMAs 2018 entries show impressive increase from previous years

The South African Music Awards (SAMAs) list of entrants is out, with record-breaking entries from previous years.

This year, the SAMAs received 778 eligible entries, up from 740 last year, and 470 in 2016.

The office has even gone ahead to make public the full list of entries.

“We still commit to the practice of openness and transparency and a fair selection process. We release these entries for the industry and music supporters to be kept abreast of the developments as we progress through the stages of the Sama. Also, to avoid any surprises when we announce the final nomination list in the next few weeks,” RiSA CEO Nhlanha Sibisi said about the awards.

Most popular category

The Best Music Video category received the most entries at 127, followed by Best Collaboration with 100 submissions.

The SAMA office will release five nominees in each category. Those voted for by the panels and verified by an independent audit firm.
