2017 has been a good year for many people. Although it has had its equal share of difficulties, we have a reason to smile.

Minnie Dlamini’s wedding

Minnie married her longtime boyfriend, Quinton Jones, in a wedding ceremony that drew the attention of everyone. This was in September. Earlier on in July, the couple had had their traditional wedding.

Minnie later decided to show her fans a three part documentary on the months leading to her wedding. She looked dazzling in her Gert-Johan Coetzee designed gown.

Tumi Morake

It all started when people called out Tumi for being racist. This was during her show where she talked of. She refused to apologise and the radio network came to her defence.

However, in her recent comments on a supposed ‘joke’ about down syndrome, she was not spared. Tumi had to issue a public apology. The radio personality talked about how she had used the down syndrome punch line in the heist of insulting each other.

Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters

Demi-Leigh made the country proud when she brought home the Miss Universe title. The 21 year olds dream became alive. She currently lives in New York, where she carries out her duties.

We are proud of you.

Awards

It has been a good year for many of our local artistes. Nomzamo Mbatha was named woman of the year by KOKO, a British based African magazine. Terry Pheto took home the Film Award at Mbokodo Awards, where she was selected after careful consultation and research. At the South African Hip Hop Awards, Cassper Nyovest walked away with five awards: The Milestone Award, Album of the year award, hustler of the year award, most valuable award, best male award, and best video award.

DJ Sbu was also named trailblazer of the year in the 2017 Annual Step Up Awards.

Congratulations to all who made us proud.

All in all, it has been a great year for the most part of it. We are ready for what 2018 has in store.
