Six months ago, Simphiwe Ngema’s life changed. In an instant, she was left a widow when her husband Dumi Masilela passed on.

Despite it all, Simphiwe is staying strong and has even managed to motivate herself to lead a happy life.

She penned a heartfelt letter to herself, as a reminder to always keep her chin up.

Letter

“To Quing Simz: for all the pain that you’ve been through, for all the tears you’ve cried, for all the sleepless nights, for all the lonely tearful drives… I am sorry. I know I’m not as good as Dumi Masilela at loving you but I’m gonna make sure that I love you with my everything, until the end of time,” she wrote.

Simphiwe Ngema talks on life after Dumi Masilela’s death

Simphiwe Ngema, Dumi Masilela’s widow, has reflected on the grief she experienced following her husband’s death.

In an interview with True Love magazine, Ngema the pact they once made that when they were old, Masilela would die first and give Ngema just two days to prepare his funeral. He would then come fetch her.

Ngema remembered the agreement and days after Masilela’s death, decided to wait for him.

He never showed up.

“I took a bath, got dressed and went into the restroom. I sat there for a good hour waiting for him to fetch me. People kept knocking at the door but I sat there crying. In my mind, getting up meant I was accepting Dumi’s death and betraying him, and so I stayed sitting, asking for Dumi to come fetch me, but he didn’t come.”

Two months after his death, Dumi appeared to Ngema in a dream and said he would stay with her forever.

Dumi was killed in August 2017 in a botched hijacking, just two months after marrying Ngema.

Ngema is trying to pick up the pieces.
