After a gruelling regular season, the Western Conference finally came to a close with teams getting ready to head to Nairobi on the 11th and 12th of October at the Moi International Sports Center Kasarani to battle it out for the ZUBL national championship.

The Western Conference finals can only be termed as a milestone for Kenyan basketball. The western conference finals were the first finals ever in East Africa to air live in HD on Zuku channel 300.

The final day of the two day playoffs saw teams converge at the Moi Main gym in Eldoret for the third and fourth place playoffs as well as the finals.

MKU Nakuru extended their unbeaten run to the conference finals and beat Maseno in an entertaining finals that saw two players; George Kiarie form MKU Nakuru and Evans Ochieng’ from Maseno main turn the game into a three point shooting contest finishing the game on 12 and 35 points respectively.

Once again, the 6’11” Nicholas Anyang came through for the team and his dominance in the paint and 16 points was enough to earn MKU-Nakuru the well deserved win and also earn him the playoffs MVP.

The win over Maseno main means MKU-Nakuru are crowned the winners of the Western conference and with that came a Kshs. 20,000 in prize money awarded to their institution and a winner’s trophy. Maseno main got Kshs 10,000 awarded to their institution.

Maseno City earlier in the night also shocked Masinde Muliro University when they beat them 97-91 in an entertaining match that had to be settled in overtime and this win ensured them a spot in the National finals as second runners up in the conference.

The finals of the ladies game saw MKU Eldoret emerge 51-42 winners over Egerton Main campus and this win earned their institution Kshs. 20,000 in prize money. Mano Sov  finished the game on 16 points for MKU Eldoret and earned herself the playoffs  MVP honors.
