This Fine-Looking Singer is ‘Doing the Dutch’ Barefacedly

She brought you ‘Africa Massive’ and then ‘Brikicho’ alongside Electrique DJs & Jazz, but now gifted and talented Fena Gitu famed for her smooth floetry has gone hardcore.

Fena alongside Kagwe Mungai & Toshi have just released an exemplary video for their single, “Dutch”. Etymologically doing Dutch means “splitting the bill” and Fena brings that out with her late 1960s and 1970s feminist demeanor that supported the Dutch date practice.

The video also adopts infamous gangster, Dutch Schultz’s strategy of profit from racing (the gambling term “dutching” may be related to “go Dutch”, as it describes a system that shares stakes across a number of bets) as Fena and Kagwe take it to the streets of Nairobi in supercharged Subaru Imprezas after poker-face off yielded nothing.
