85% of Ugandans Oppose Age Limit Bill

There is no bill in the country that has caused so much controversy and debate as that of the presidential age limit. People from all ages, and walks of life living in the country have discussed this issue among themselves, and their neighbors. The robus constituency based outreach found that 85% of Ugandans Opposed the bill to remove the presidential age limit.

After a failed debate, the Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga ordered the various Members of Parliament to go back and consult their different constituencies over the bill. They were also given a sum of money for this purpose. Many researchers also undertook different surveys on the likeliness of the turn out of.  According to a survey conducted by the Civil Society Organizations (CSOs), majority of the population is in opposition.

The survey took a total of three months, and it was held in the months of October, November and December. A total of 80 constituencies were included in the sampling, data was collected, and results produced.

The study was called’ ” Citizen;s Perceptions on the Proposed Amendment of Article 102(b) of the Constitution and the results were released this December.

Many refer to this bill as one that will cause a lot of disagreements and bloodshed. Some have also alleged that it is a plan for the current ruling party to stay longer in power, hence calling it selfish, and a failure in Democracy.

Parliamentary debates are still ongoing, and the entire country is waiting for what will come out of the discussions on the age limit.
