Why Real Househelps Of Kawangware Is Just Fine Without Njugush

I am extremely choosy when selecting a movie or TV series to watch. I am one of the fil nerds who has to go to ‘Metacritic’ or ‘Rotten Tomatoes’ to check out a movie’s critic score before I watch it. If it’s below 60%, I don’t bother. It’s creators didn’t bother making it better so why should I bother watching? And when a show gets boring as time goes, I dump it. I am not a loyalist that will keep tuning it come hell or high water just because I had already devoted many hours of my life to it before.

Now when it comes to Kenyan TV productions, my cinematic profiling gets even worse.  I’ll only sit down and follow a show if its quality fascinates me.

Real Househelps Of Kawangware is one of those shows I’ve always loved. The humor is ever concrete, the script is keenly thought out and the actors take their jobs seriously. You might not relate to it if you’ve lived in a posh estate most of your life, but if you’ve been a kawaida raiya at some point, the show will hit you with lots of lower class life’s familiar aspects..

Around two months ago, popular comedian Njuguna left the show under unclear circumstances. He was the face of it, so his departure got viewers worried, I included. Would the show be the same again?Would it be possible that‘The Real Househelps Of kawangware (THRK)’ could still be any good without a large chunk of its heart and soul?Would the other characters step up? Plenty of questions were asked.  I thought it pretty much spelled the end of the show. I was sad and hurt. However, after watching the last few episodes, I realized I was so, so wrong.

Honestly, I didn’t think I was even going to be watching THRK by this time. I thought I was done with it. I thought Njuguna’s departure was my breaking point. When the news broke that ‘Mr. Slim Guy’ would be leaving the show, I immediately starting working my way through the stages of grief — starting with denial, anger, and bargaining… and working all the up to full-blown depression. Naaah, I am just kidding. But I felt pretty bad. After many days spent cursing, I finally picked myself up and carried on with life, acknowledging the fact that there was nothing I could do about Njuguna’s decision to leave… but that life would somehow go on without his presence in the show.

Several episodes have now aired without the talented comedian’s involvement and everything is just fine. The massive void that had been left has been quickly filled up by everyone involved. Matilda’s sexiness is still dazzling men, Onyi’s ghetto attitude is still as intact as always, Njambi’s devious ways are still causing trouble for everyone, Tsipicha’s  lack of awareness is still  hilarious, Mijeledi’s haphazard handling of his caretaker job is even more interesting, Makena is still being manipulated, Truphena’s appetite has gotten even bigger and Awiti’s bullish ways are still causing trouble for her friends. Not forgetting Kalekye and Brayo. Everyone is brilliant

Real Househelps of Kawangaware has this uncanny ability of reinventing itself after you think its gone south. The cast looks a lot different from when the show first started, and it still manages to be good. I always take my time to check out the Youtube comments after each episode is posted and not many people are complaining. Those who had vowed to stop watching after Nugush left are now back on board. By the way, I hope the guy stars in another great show soon. He’s too talented to be sitting around.

Njuguna left an indelible legacy on the show, and it will undoubtedly never be the same without him. But guess what? It will always be as enjoyable like it was when he was there. Maybe even better in the days to come. We’re gonna enjoy the heck out of it s long as it’s on air.. And that’s the bottom line……coz Etemesi said so! ha ha
