FIFA orders a replay of SouthAfrica VS Senegal World Cup Qualifier.

South Africa football team commonly referred to as Bafana Bafana will wait to see if they have qualified for the World cup.This is due to FIFA ordering a replay of their match against Senegal.This comes after  Senegalese Football Federation reported the referee officiating the match, Joseph Lamptey for corrupt refereeing .In the initial match Bafana Bafana won 2-1 to Senegal after referee awarded a penalty to South Africa.Following the allegation CAF went on to give the referee a 3 match ban,but later on FIFA banned him for a lifetime.

FIFA then went on to order a replay of the match,Senegal and South-Africa are currently in 3rd and 4th position respectively with Burkinafaso and the Capeverde leading Group D of the World cup  qualifiers.The replay will be on November with FIFA yet to announce the date.

“The Bureau for the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers ordered a replay of the qualification match between South Africa and Senegal held on 12 November 2016. This decision follows the confirmation of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to uphold the lifetime ban of match referee, Joseph Lamptey, for match manipulation, the ruling imposed by the FIFA Disciplinary and Appeal Committees. The match will be replayed within the November 2017 international window, with the exact date to be confirmed in due course.As stated in the FIFA World Cup regulations, this decision shall come into effect immediately but shall be subject to confirmation by the Organising Committee for FIFA Competitions at its next meeting, scheduled for 14 September. According to the disciplinary decision of 15 March 2017, which took into consideration a sporting analysis of the match as well as reports of irregular betting activities from various international betting monitoring companies, none of the member associations were involved in the manipulation of the match’s result.FIFA follows a zero-tolerance policy on match manipulation and is committed to protecting the integrity of football. As a result, FIFA will continue with its ongoing efforts to combat match manipulation through a variety of initiatives, which include the monitoring of international betting and a confidential reporting system with a dedicated integrity hotline and e-mail address.”
