ANC issues an apology to Nomzamo Mbatha

The African National Congress apologised to Nomzamo Mbatha for musician Arthur Mafokate’s conduct at its Manifesto Launch rally at the Moses Mabhida stadium in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday.

The ANC took to Twitter to offer their apology to the activist.

We apologise to Nomzamo Mbatha for any offence this despicable conduct may have caused in the execution of her duties as a programme director. We have full confidence in her activism against gender-based violence,” said the party.

Arthur responds to Cici claims

CiCi has been very vocal about the abuse allegations she has made against ex-boyfriend Arthur Mafokate who has chosen to remain quiet throughout the whole ordeal.

Cici has opened up about the allegations both on social media and during interviews.

Well Arthur decided to finally respond to the allegations by stating why he chose to stay quiet during the whole ordeal.

“Dear CiCi as I said this morning on Power FM, I have deliberately not commented on all your social media posts, not just for my own sake, but also for your dignity. I will keep doing exactly that until the court processes have been finalized (sic),” he wrote.

Arthur Mafokate pulls out of the 100 Men March

Arthur has received negative attention ever since he announced plans of joining the 100 Men March which saw local men standing up against violence against women and children.

Eventually withdrawing from the march, Arthur released a statement, saying his decision not to take part was due to “the opposition I have received from participation as well as threats I, and my immediate family, have received.”

He added: “I stand resolute in my support of the rights of women and children and all activities aimed at combatting gender violence and abuse. That I stand accused of having perpetrated violence against a woman does not mean I am guilty thereof.

SAMRO board drops Arthur Mafokate as the non-executive director

Southern African Music Rights Organisation (SAMRO) made the decision to remove kwaito star Arthur Mafokate from his position as non-executive director of the SAMRO board.

This come after allegation of his abuse to Cici have been making headlines.

“SAMRO strongly and unequivocally condemns any violence, and especially those perpetrated against women. This is something each member of our organization, including the board, is aware of,” the statement reads, going on to say: “Thus, it was unanimously agreed that the ongoing court case involving Mr Mafokate and Ms Busisiwe Twala has continued to attract undesirable, and quite frankly worrying publicity, which has also caused serious harm to the public perception of the organisation.” 

Cici’s and Arthur Mafokate’s trial slated for March

Kwaito star Arthur Mafokate is facing charges of alleged abuse to his ex-girlfriend, Busisiwe Twala (Cici).

The incident, which happened in June 2017, led to Cici undergoing a pelvic replacement operation.

“After months of fighting and threats my court case against Mafokate finally goes to trial 14th March .I will never stop fighting until I get some form of justice. Too often women shy away from standing up for themselves because we worry what the world will say,” Cici tweeted.

Cici also faces charges of assault, to which she pleaded not guilty.
