Cici Reveals How Sharing Her Story helped In Her Healing Process

Cici recently revealed that sharing her story as a woman who has survived an abusive relationship helped her heal.

“I think it definitely helped me heal because it made me realize how many women were willing to come forth and say enough is enough. But what helped me the most was putting all those emotions that I felt into my music because it was a personal journey for me.”

Last year, Cici laid charges against her then partner Arthur Mafokate after an altercation between them turned violent.

“I think we live in a society where men feel entitled to a woman’s body. Little things like making remarks about her body as she walks down the street is abusive. I’ve also had to watch a family member go through abuse… And therefore have felt the need to advocate for those who don’t have the means to do it for themselves.”

Her activism is now an inspiration by a woman’s ability to turn pain into power.

“I always preach self-love which is a concept that many of us are yet to understand. When you love self you understand your worth and therefore will automatically know if someone is not beneficial to your mental/emotional state.”

Cici gives niece advice we can borrow from

Idol contestant Nosipho, is Cici’s niece. She has been supporting her since the auditions as her biggest fan. Now that she is among the top 7 contestants, Cici took some time to give her some advice. In it, she encourages Nosipho to ignore the naysayers and focus on the big picture, something we too can borrow from.

Here is what Cici wrote: “I’m looking at your journey now and I’m watching all Nay sayers and thinking about how I listened to them hence I took so long to begin to fight for my career.. Remember that not everyone who follows you loves or wishes you well.Others are envious of your bravery and are waiting for that one moment of setback to attack.. Ask yourself why they never said anything when you did good..Exactly!!! Fly on my lil super star ?..Fly on a great journey awaits you @therealnocy_jay To everyone who believes in her thank for not giving up on her and for the constructive criticism ??”

The court matter has been postponed to tomorrow, when cross-examination is expected to take place.

Cici found not guilty in assault case

In a ruling delivered yesterday at the Midrand Magistrate’s Court, Cici was found not guilty. This is of assault charges that had been laid against her.

The charges came about when her ex-boyfriend, Arthur Mafokate, laid counter charges against Cici. He alleged that she hit him with a coat hanger and a steel chair, and bit his arms during a scuffle.

“We are happy that the court finally found that she was not guilty for the charges which were fabricated …,” the singer’s lawyer William Sekgatja said outside court.

Cici’s victory is termed a victory to all victims of abuse.

CiCi issued with warrant of arrest

Singer CiCi has become a wanted woman after the court issued an arrest warrant for not turning up.

Case

She was to show up at the Midrand Magistrate’s Court on Friday. This is in the case of assault opened by her ex-boyfriend Arthur Mafokate, and which places her as the defendant.

Mafokate claimed Cici assaulted him while they were wrestling for his phone.

National Prosecuting Authority South Gauteng spokewoman confirmed that a warrant of arrest had indeed been issued to CiCi.

“We can confirm she didn’t appear in court and a warrant was issued for her arrest,” she said.

CiCi gets emotional speaking about case against Arthur Mafokate

CiCi opened up about her legal between with ex-boyfriend Arthur Mafokate. This was during SABC’s Trending SA.

Since laying a case against him in 2017, the two have been in and out of court.

CiCi did not want to delve into detail about what really happened, but she did confirm that the incident happened.

“I cannot speak about what really happened because the case is on trial and so I don’t want to take away from the merits of the case,” she said.

Adding: “But yes, the incident did happen. Yes, I did break my pelvic. I underwent four-hour surgery just to have that replaced, and physical therapy, and seeing someone professional right now.”

When asked how she was coping, CiCi became emotional. “I’m healing, but it’s a bit difficult because you have to go to court, and it’s like a back and forth.”

She decided to tell her story because she felt that it was her responsibility to be an example for the people who look up to her.

“I remember coming out and people were like: ‘Aren’t you scared, cause you’re a celebrity’ and I was like: ‘Before I am a celebrity I’m actually human’. The people who actually follow my music need to understand that we are human and we experience the same things that they go through. And I would not have done justice to the young people and women especially to not come out and speak about this, because they listen to my music, and what kind of example do I then set if I protect the perpetrator.”

Busisiwe ‘Cici’ Twala speaks on SAMA nomination

Her assault trial was set to resume in court today. Cici has however found comfort in being nominated at the SAMAs.

She has been nominated for the best R&B/soul/reggae album category, for her album Busisiwe against Thami, Afrotraction, Thabsie and The Nameless Band.

“I am pretty chuffed. I was not expecting that, so it came as a great surprise. I know I put a great body of work out there and I put my heart on my sleeves, but it’s not up to me to make a decision.

“So, I am just glad that the entertainment industry saw me fit to qualify for a nomination,” Cici said.

This is her second album since splitting from her ex-boyfriend, Arthur Mafokate. She hopes this album will do better than the previous one.

“The previous did okay. I think by the time I put it out there I was on my way to parting with the company, so we didn’t really invest much time in trying to promote the
album. So, I think this album in particular will do better than the first one,” she said.

Assault Case

Cici and Mafokate will appear at the Midrand Magistrate’s Court today on an assault case following an altercation at Mafokate’s Midrand home.

“I am taking it day-by-day, I am okay. I am speaking to people, so that is great.

“I am seeing someone, so for me what is really important for me is to take care of what is happening on the inside.

“What you see and what you hear in my music is me putting my heart on my sleeves. When I am happy you will know and when I am sad you will know,” she said.

Cici is back, and stronger

Cici seems to be back even stronger, considering the gruelling domestic abuse that unfolded between her and her then boyfriend, Arthur Mafokate.

Early this year, the two got into a physical fight when Cici allegedly confronted Arthur about a phone call he was having with another woman in her presence.

They have been in and out of court to resolve the matter.

Cici has released new music and is promoting her single, Iqiniso. She has also joined a new record label, Ambitouz Enteranment, after leaving Arthur’s record label.

Singer Busisiwe Twala, known to many as CiCi is expected to appear in the Midrand Magistrate’s Court today, facing counter charges of assault laid against her by her ex-boyfriend, who was also her former boss, Arthur Mafokate.

CiCi and Arthur Mafokate during happier times

On Wednesday, Mafokate’s attempts to get his assault charge resolved through mediation hit a snag as Twala refused to accept that. He briefly appeared in the Midrand Magistrate’s Court. He is accused of allegedly physically abusing Twala.

In June, Mafokate appeared in the same court on a charge of common assault, where CiCi claimed that he allegedly dragged her in the street with his car during an argument. He was released on R500 bail.

Mafokate has denied any wrongdoing.

Activists however say that Mafokate should own up to the allegations.
