6 Kenyan Celebrities Who Perished In Freak Accidents And Whom We Miss Dearly (Photos)

The brutal hand of death has robbed Kenya of celebrities who were on top of their game during their heydays. Some perished in very strange circumstances.

Many people hope to live to 80s and die peacefully having seen grandkids and achieved self actualization.

But events that are beyond our control happen and change our destinies altogether. Death is one occurrence that robs us of our dreams, aspirations and most importantly the people we love.

A number of celebrities have passed been casualties of this unlikelihood and we’ll attempt to remember them today:

1. Angel Wainaina

On 28th January 2009, a raging inferno razed down Nakumatt supermarket at the end of Kenyatta Avenue.

Twenty nine people died in the fire tragedy which was allegedly caused by a powerful explosion as a result of leaking gas cylinders.

Angel Wainaina was among those whose lives were robbed by the fire at Nakumutt supermarket. Angel was a model, poet, an underground rapper and an actress.

She was a runner up at the Miss Kenya competition in 2005, starred in Alfred Mutua’s “Cobra Squad” and also served as a presenter on Ghetto Radio.

The deceased met her end while she was shopping at the supermarket.

 

2. Kaberere

Peter Kaberere passed away on April 6th 2014 in Nairobi. The gospel singer died on a Sunday after being electrocuted in a freak accident at his carwash.

DJ Mo announced Kaberere’s death on Crossover 101 confirming the ‘Just A Way’ singer was electrocuted at his carwash located near Lower Kabete while cleaning his car.

 

3. Derrick Amunga

The deceased is best known for his role in the TV series ‘Tausi’ where he played a role of a villain called “Master Sugu”.

Amunga was found dead in August 2014 at the Kenyatta National Hospital mortuary after a week’s search.

The veteran actor was reportedly taken to the hospital on July 27th by three policemen from Kabete Police Station who had picked him unconscious along Waiyaki Way with head and chest injuries.

He succumbed to his injuries and his body was taken to the mortuary without his family knowing where he was.

 

4. Mighty King Kong

The popular dancehall artist known for his mega hit “Lady’s Choice” died on Christmas Day 2007 at the age of 34.

Paul Otieno Imbaya best known as Mighty King Kong was pronounced dead at Kenyatta National Hospital after being taken ill at home.

The singer was said to have died after being poisoned.

 

5. Bishop Ben Bahati

Bishop Ben Bahati passed away in a hospital following a grisly road accident in Burnt Forest. Bishop Bahati was a minister at Eldoret’s Global Field Evangelism, he was also a gospel artist.

The bishop suffered severe injuries in the accident, he had spinal injury and was unable to speak or feel his legs.

He succumbed to his injuries on Monday night November 3rd 2014. Bishop Ben Bahati inspired many gospel singers including Rufftone.

 

6. Nana Gichuru

Her tragic death traumatized many. The popular actress died in a horrible accident on September 22nd 2015 on Eastern Bypass.

Nana Gichuru died on the spot after ramming her BMW convertible into a lorry. Her car was badly damaged in the accident leaving her body in equal disarray.
