Job Mwaura. The brain child behind one of K24’s most watched show, Mgaagaa Na Upwa. We see the polished, handsome looking guy on the teli, but who is he as a person? Ghafla explores..

Job was brought up is from a very humble background, his life hasn’t been rosy.

  1. After clearing high school in 2005, Job ventured into boda boda business, transporting people. His customer rate declined though after a while due to his size. He is quite small, so people doubted his capability to carry them. The boda boda he used he had to rent at 70 bob per day, even with no profits for that day, Job still had to pay that amount to his lender.
  2. Frustrated with his boda boda turnout, Job tried a hand in carrying peoples luggage when they leave the supermarket. While in this hustle, he met a woman who offered him a job at her house. To wash her car and get paid 400/= per day. This was in 2006, same year that his results were released. He had attained a clean B-, but due to funds, he had to continue washing cars, his job upgraded to a car wash the woman owned.
  3. With savings to sustain him, Job enrolled to East Africa School of Media Services. Studied for two years and cleared in 2009.
  4. He then got an internship at KBC early 2009 then later transferred to Citizen after his internship program ended. He joined Citizen in late 2009, after his intership program ended; he volunteered to work without pay. His determination, prayers and hard work paid off because he got hired as a full time employee in 2010.
  5. While at Citizen, his program Mgaagaa Na Upwa was born. He later poached by K24 in 2013, and on he went with his program. He is still at K24 till to date.
  6. Mgaagaa na Upwa, a program that featuresin from all walks of life, their struggle, their journey etc… This program airs every Tuesday.
  7. Job Mwaura is the best Swahili Senior reporter in the country, he was awarded Young Journalist of the year back in 2012.
  8. His reporting is very poetic.
  9. Next month, big plans are underway for him to start another program called Sauti Tajika. The program will be focused in showcasing how individuals use their speech to get money.
