Award-Winning Gospel Singer Sarah K Sheds Light On Her Academic Credentials

Sarah K is arguably one of the most decorated gospel singers in Kenya today. Having started her career in early 90s, Sarah K remains one of the few veteran singers who have continued to glow even when competition threatened to throw them off balance.

But behind the sweet voice and success, Sarah K’s academic qualifications have for some time given her sleepless nights.

In an interview with True Love Magazine, Sarah K revealed that she dropped out of school in form two. She has a genuine reason for this.

She is among those people who, again and again, have proved that success is not necessarily directly proportional to one’s academic qualifications.

Sarah K revealed that she dropped out of school in form two to take care of her siblings after her parents had separated due to domestic violence.

She laments that her mother was always on the receiving end of beatings from her father who was once a pastor, forcing her to separate with him and go their ways.

She couldn’t raise fees and the workload back home took toll of her, forcing her to drop out of school.

She could, however, join a village polytechnic where she learnt tailoring which greatly boosted her. She later worked as a house help in Nairobi where she earned 400/= a month. Later on she could start singing and in 1990 she recorded her first album.
