Congolese Music Superstar DETAINED In Mombasa Over A Ksh. 20,000 Hotel Bill -Before Jaguar Jumps To His Rescue
Aging Congolese singers just want stop hogging the local headlines. First it was Koffi Olomide with his airport kicking habits that saw him kicked (pun intended) out of the Country – for good.
And now,yet another Congolese star is back in the headlines- over something less honorable.
Yesterday,Rhumba legend General Defao was locked up and detained at the Rickseaside Villas in Nyali,Mombasa after he was unable to settle a Ksh. 20,000 bill meant for arrears accumulated in the apartment he was staying in.
General Defao,who has been out of the limelight for quite sometime now,was Trending on Twitter for the better part of yesterday with Kenyans mocking his ignominious predicament and mostly,his ghostly – even ghastly – look that has been popularized by NTV host Larry Madowo.
In the photo,not sure whether it’s a recent one or an old one,Defao wears a haggard face botched out by uneven bleaching and horrible makeup. And with loads of heavy jewelry dangling from his neck.
He looks more like a drag queen in a bad transsexual television show in Thailand than an African music icon.
But bleaching the skin to attain a whiter look is something Congolese singers are terribly notorious for. Including the struggling vocalists eking out a living by playing at rundown dinghies in Lang’ata.
Later,reports indicated that moneyed Kapuka singer Jaguar had offered to pay off the bill and save the poor legend’s face. And it was actually true…
Defao,who had been booked to perform in the particular hotel,ended up extending his stay and accruing bills that were not meant to be covered by the hotel management.
