Fred Matiang’i bans the mock exams and suspends county education officials after Governor Rasanga Spent 1.7 million to put his portrait on the mock exams

Education minister Fred Matiang’i has cancelled Siaya County mock examinations and punished several education officials in the county.

In a press statement released to media houses, the Minister said the schools in the county were doing mocks contrary to policies of the national government on education. The minister also noted that the mock exams for the standard 8 students bore the portrait of the county governor. Here is the screenshot of the mock exam

In addition to cancelling the mocks with immediate effect, the minister interdicted the County Director of Education and 6 sub-county directors of education. He also dissolved the current Siaya County Education Board and ordered a fresh one to be reconstituted.  Here is the full statement from the minister;

The announcement came as a blow to Cornell Rasanga who had pulled a clever ploy to familiarize himself in the county. In fact, his office had defended the action saying it allows the students to know the governor and even the parents.

The governor had spent a whooping 1.7 million for the exercise which has proved to be futile. Kenyans online had shared the photo of the examination paper bearing the governor’s image leading to a national outcry and condemnation of the act. Siaya County has repeatedly been in the spotlight for heavy spending.
