Great Kenyan Warrior Re-Appears 4 Years After Passing On

She was one of the most celebrated African leaders of our time. She is celebrated even today. Prof. Wangari Maathai made headlines with her involvement in the conservation of the environment through her Greebelt Movement.

She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004 thanks to her desire to keep the environment clean and a better place for all. She later became MP but unfortunately we lost her to cancer in 2011.

She has continued to live amidst us four years after she left and her legacy has prompted the African Union (AU) to honour her.

In the summit held in South Africa over the weekend, the union agreed to fete the fallen heroine with a section of its headquarters named after her. Therefore there will be the Wangari Maathai Gardens in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

The proposal was made by Congo and unanimously agreed thanks to Maathai’s legacy.

Four years down the line Maathai’s name is still very fresh amongst us.
